Bengals vs Raiders 2019 NFL Week 11 Odds, Preview & Prediction

Written by on November 14, 2019

Very unlikely that the Cincinnati Bengals become the third team in NFL history with a 0-16 record, but also quite unlikely they win Sunday as double-digit NFL Betting underdogs in their final-ever visit to Oakland. The Raiders have been one of the NFL’s pleasant surprises.

Bengals vs Raiders Last Meeting

Cincinnati lost seven of its final eight games of the 2018 season. Its lone victory was 30-16 at home over Oakland. Joe Mixon ran for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Mixon’s 15-yard touchdown with 4:04 left clinched it. Jeff Driskel was the Cincy QB that day. He had a 7-yard touchdown to Tyler Boyd for Cincinnati’s first score, but Driskel finished 14 of 33 for 130 yards with an interception. The Raiders struggled to get anything going consistently, managing 297 total yards. Derek Carr was 21 of 38 for 263 yards and a touchdown.

The Raiders lead all-time, 20-11, including 2-0 in postseason, though the Bengals have won three straight, and four of the last five meetings. Oakland has dominated as the home team throughout the series, leading the Bengals 14-2 in both Oakland and Los Angeles.

Why Bet on Cincinnati?

The Bengals were embarrassed at home last week 49-13. The Bengals (0-9) switched quarterbacks but couldn’t avoid their first sweep by the Ravens since 2011. Ryan Finley made his NFL debut and had a hand in the blowout. Marcus Peters read the rookie’s eyes and stepped in front of a sideline pass, returning an interception 89 yards for a touchdown. Finley also had a fumble that he lost returned for a touchdown.

Ryan Finley completed 16-of-30 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and the one pick. Finley’s first career start went about as well as you’d think it would. The Bengals took the air out of the ball, forcing Joe Mixon to rush 30 times despite trailing multiple touchdowns for most of the game. Finley was ultra-conservative when he was asked to pass. The fourth-round rookie’s first touchdown was a nice back-shoulder fade to Tyler Eifert. Mixon rushed 30 times for 114 yards and caught two passes for 37 yards. It was his first 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Coach Zac Taylor called A.J. Green (ankle) “day to day.” Green saw renewed swelling in his surgically-repaired ankle last week and still has yet to play this season. Hard to imagine he will.

Some Bright Spot

The Bengals were a perfect 6-0 in 2018 when scoring 25 points or more, and 0-10 when failing to hit the mark. They have yet to reach 25 points in a game in 2019. Since 2011, the Bengals own a 46-1-2 record (.959) when scoring 25 or more points.

One bright spot so far has been kick-returner Brandon Wilson. He leads the NFL with a 36.0-yard average on KORs, nearly seven yards better than the next-best qualifying player, Chicago’s Cordarrelle Patterson (29.1). Wilson’s 12 returns for 432 yards this season have included four of at least 40 yards and one TD.

Cincinnati has cut linebacker Preston Brown even though he was re-signed in March to a 3-year, $16.5M contract with $4.8M guaranteed and he had started eight of the team’s nine games. Brown had 54 tackles this season with one forced fumble and fumble recovery.

Why Bet on Oakland?

The Raiders were 26-24 comeback winners at home last Thursday over the Chargers. NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year favorite. Josh Jacobs rushed 16 times for 71 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions for 30 additional yards. He scored the game-winning 18-yard touchdown with 1:02 remaining. Jacobs was practically untouched as he shot like a cannonball through the hole.

Jacobs is sixth in the NFL with 811 rushing yards. He has more yards, a better per-carry average and more touchdowns than Ezekiel Elliott.

Bengals vs Raiders should be an easy one for Oakland.

Derek Carr completed 21-of-31 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. Carr set a new NFL record with his 18th career 4th-quarter comeback, the most in NFL history through a player’s first six seasons. The Raiders lead the NFL with 102 points on drives of at least 10 plays and rank third in passing completion percentage (70.8).

Defense is Strong

A Raiders pass rush that logged just 13 sacks all of last season got to Philip Rivers five times in Week 9 and forced three interceptions. The win was costly in the Oakland secondary. Safety Karl Joseph suffered a season-ending foot injury. Joseph’s right knee buckled on his game-sealing interception late in the fourth quarter. Lamarcus Joyner was also hurt on that series, bowing out with a right hamstring injury. Joseph has had breakout season, garnering Pro Football Focus’ No. 26 safety grade out of 89 positional qualifiers. Joyner is being listed as week-to-week so he’s not likely here.

The team has signed safety DJ Swearinger. With Joseph and rookie Johnathan Abram out, the team needed to add more depth on the backend of the defense, and Swearinger brings a vast amount of experience and talent to the decimated unit. Prior to this season with the Arizona Cardinals, Swearinger had three consecutive seasons with at least three interceptions, amassing 11 total between 2016 – 2018. He was cut in Week 5 this year by Arizona.

If they handle their business over the next two weeks — at home against the Bengals and at the 2-7 Jets — the Raiders will go to Kansas City with a 7-4 record and first place in the AFC West on the line.
