Last Season

The teams split in 2020. The Giants won at home 27-17. New York rushed for 151 yards – quarterback Daniel Jones led the way with 64 yards on nine carries, including a 34-yard touchdown. Wayne Gallman added 53 yards on 18 carries, two of them touchdowns. Jones completed 21 of 28 passes for 244 yards with neither a touchdown pass nor an interception. There were no turnovers in the game. The third-down defense was particularly strong for the Giants who held Philadelphia without a successful conversion attempt on nine attempts.

The Eagles won for the third time in four games last Sunday, 40-29 over New Orleans. Philly racked up 242 yards on the ground against a team that allowed 72.9 yards rushing per game. The Eagles have surpassed 175 yards rushing in four straight games, including 200-plus in three victories in that span.

Jalen Hurts completed 13-of-24 passes for 147 yards, adding 18 carries for 69 additional yards and three touchdowns. Hurts’ scores went for one, three and 24 yards. Hurts entered the game afternoon with zero rushing scores in his past four contests but now has three multi-rushing TDs games this year.

Hurts, who is 23 years and 106 days old, is the second-youngest quarterback in league annals to register three rushing touchdowns in a single game, trailing only Cam Newton (three rushing touchdowns on December 4, 2011 at 22 years, 207 days old). Hurts has 11 rushing touchdowns in his first 15 career starts, tied with Josh Allen (11 rushing touchdown) and Kordell Stewart (11) for the second-most by a quarterback in his first 15 career starts in the Super Bowl era. Only Newton (14) had more.

Hurts has four career games with at least two rushing touchdowns, tied with Newton (four) for the most such games by a quarterback in his first two seasons in the Super Bowl era.

Cornerback Darius Slay, who had an 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Week 10, is the third player since 2000 with a defensive touchdown of at least 50 yards in consecutive games, joining Sheldon Brown (Weeks 13-14, 2009) and Vincent Fuller (Week 3 and Week 5, 2007). Slay did leave the New Orleans game with a head injury but will play in this one.

Kicker Jake Elliott converted a career-high 4-of-4 FG attempts vs. the Saints, including kicks from 57, 37, 33 and, 47 yards in distance, and 4-of-4 PATs to finish with a career-high 16 points. He connected on his 15th career FG from 50+ yards, which is only 1 FG shy of tying David Akers (16, 1999-2010) for the most in franchise history (including playoffs). Elliott’s 3 FGs from 50+ yards this season are his most since 2017 (5).

Short week for New York after being dominated 30-10 at Tampa Bay on Monday. Down 17-10, the Giants drove to the Buccaneers 25 on the opening drive of the third quarter before QB Daniel Jones, under pressure from Devin White, threw incomplete on fourth-and-1 after rushing to the line to beat the play clock. The Giants really never threatened in the game again.

Jones completed 23-of-38 passes for 167 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Jones and the Giants marched down the field on the opening possession only to stall in the red zone before settling for a field goal. It was all bad after that, as Jones’ touchdown was a gift via a Mike Evans drop that goes on the books as a Tom Brady interception. It was returned inside the 10-yard line, and Jones tossed a two-yard score to left tackle Andrew Thomas on a trick play to finish it off. Saquon Barkley rushed six times for 25 yards and caught all six of his targets for 31 yards. It was Barkley’s first action since twisting his ankle in Week 5.

The offense was so bad that coordinator Jason Garrett was fired Tuesday. The Giants on Monday finished with 215 total yards — the second-lowest total of the 26-game Joe Judge era — and just 66 rushing yards. The 15 first downs were a season low, and only one of the Giants’ 54 offensive plays vs. the Bucs gained more than 16 yards. The Giants have averaged 18.9 points per game this season, ranking 25th in the NFL on offense. In 2020, Garrett’s first season, the Giants were 31st in the NFL at 17.5 points per game. Jones has thrown nine touchdown passes in 10 games, which place him 28th among the 34 quarterbacks in the NFL’s weekly statistics.

Despite the short week, Judge was convinced the time was right to make a change at offensive coordinator: “My responsibility is to make the best decisions for this team at all times. “I’ve made it clear that I expect more out of our offense, I expect more out of our players and production. It’s the coach’s job to put our players in a position to be successful.”

Two top Giants receivers, Sterling Shepard and Kadarius Toney, are in question this week. Shepard missed Monday’s game and Toney was banged up in it.
