NFL Week 15 Betting Preview and Analysis for Detroit Lions at New York

Lions Continue to Play Winning Football

A 1-6 club in the NFL has never advanced further than the regular season; however, the Detroit Lions have rattled off a 5-1 record since their dismal start. Their most recent victory, a 34-23 victory against the 10-3 Vikings on Sunday, propelled the Lions from the periphery into the heart of the playoff conversation.

In Week 14, Detroit defeated the Minnesota Vikings 34-23; Jared Goff led the offense with three touchdowns and 320 yards. The offense posted an incredible 464 yards and 34 points and now are averaging 32.2 points over their last five contests. Goff was nominated for player of the week for the second week in a row and now has seven touchdowns and zero turnovers in his last three NFL games.

The Lions’ defense is the team’s biggest weakness, as they gave up 23 points and 447 total yards last week to the Vikings. Despite recording four sacks and forcing two fumbles in the win, the Lions rank dead last in total defense, as Detroit is surrendering over 400 yards per game to opposing teams.

Jets Look to get Back in the Win Column

The Jets went into Buffalo last week and fell 20-12, pushing their losing streak to two games. To make matters worse, the Jets have fallen into third place in the AFC East standings, and they are now out of the current AFC playoff picture.

The Jets‘ defense played a tremendous game against Buffalo recording three sacks and holding Josh Allen and the potent Bills offense to just 232 yards. Despite their effort, after forcing 22 turnovers in the first 12 NFL games of the season, the Jets have failed to record a turnover costing them their last two games.

New York’s offense has tremendously improved since Mike White has taken over as the starting quarterback. Over the course of his three starts, the Jets are averaging 21.7 points per game. Keep a close eye on the injury report, as White was taken to the hospital after the game over a rib injury.

Betting Odds and Lines

According to Mybookie, the New York Jets are currently -1 point spread (-110) favorites for this matchup. In terms of the moneyline, the Jets are -115 to get the win at home, while the Detroit Lions are -105 road underdogs to pick up the win. When it comes to the total, the Over/Under has been set at 44.5 points (-110).

Betting Pick

The Lions are red hot as they have won 6 straight games against the spread and five of their last six straight up. They have now recorded at least 25 points in five straight games, ranking fifth in the league for scoring offense (26.8 points per game). While their defense will always be battle-tested, they have done just enough to keep them in games.

The Jets, conversely, have the opposite problem. Their defense has been excellent, but their offense has failed to put up consistent points. Quinnen Williams is a huge blow for that defense if he can’t go, and the Jets will have to turn to Zach Wilson again if Mike White is unable to play.

The bottom line is no one wants to play the Lions right now. Dan Campbell has this Detroit team clicking on all cylinders, and the Jets have way too many question marks heading into the game. We think the Lions continue to win.

NFL Betting Pick: Detroit Lions ML (-105)
