Look Back at the 2020 Worst NFL Draft Picks

Written by on March 10, 2021

With just one season in the books, it is tough to declare any player a bust just yet. It sometimes takes players a little time to adjust to life in the NFL, so a bad rookie season might not necessarily mean that a short career is on the cards. That said, there are some picks from the 2020 draft that do not look promising at all. The reality is that it is impossible for a team to hit with every single pick, as there are always going to be a few guys who are simply unable to make the leap from college to pro. Sometimes it’s a lack of the essential tools, while other times, it’s a player seemingly unwilling to put in the work. Let’s take a quick look at some of the worst picks from the 2020 NFL Draft so you can continue planning your bets against their NFL Draft odds for the upcoming draft.

NFL Worst 2020 Draft Picks Recap

Isaiah Wilson – Tennessee Titans

The Titans had some issues at the OT position this past offseason, yet they still only activated their first-round pick for 1 game this past season. Wilson was already considered to be a bit of a reach at #29 in the draft, but it was problems off the field that made this pick even worse.  A paid of COVID related issues were just the start of the problems, with trespass and DUI charges also coming his way during the course of the season. He was suspended for violating team rules in Week 13 and was soon placed on the non-football illness list, which is where he remained for the rest of the season.

Jordan Love – Green Bay Packers

What we have here is not a knock on the player at all, as he is yet to get a start in the NFL. This one is all on the Packers, as they moved up to get a QB, essentially signaling that they might be ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers. They created a ton of drama and speculation where none was required, and while you can say that the move worked given that Rodgers went on to have an MVP season, it was still a passive aggressive move that puts Rodgers future in Green Bay in doubt.

Jeff Okudah – Detroit Lions

As we said at the top of this piece, one poor season does not a bad career make, but we certainly expected more out of the #3 pick in the draft. Okudah had a delayed start to the season, missing the opener with an injured hamstring, and he might well have hoped that he had stayed on the bench after getting lit up by Rodgers and the Packers in his first game. Teams consistently targeted the rookie CB throughout the season and had some real success against Okudah. Given where he went in the draft, he may well be the worst pick based on what we saw in 2020.

Those were the three standout flops from the opening round of selections in the 2020 NFL Draft, and while there were a couple, Jerry Jeudy of the Broncos for one, who almost made this list, they showed enough to suggest that improvements might be coming next season.
