NFL 2021 Season: Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Betting Analysis

NFL 2021 Season: Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Betting Analysis

The Detroit Lions are looking to make history this season, but for all of the wrong reasons. The Lions are on pace to be the only 0-16-1 team in the history of the league. This is only because this is the first time that the NFL has ever played 17 regular-season games. If not for a tie against the Steelers, the Lions would have been on pace to go 0-17. It’s a season that Dan Campbell and the Lions would love to forget.

The Vikings have been one of the league’s many up-and-down teams. Just when they look like they’re ready to turn the corner, they lose a game that halts the momentum that they’ve built. After they beat the Green Bay Packers, many were looking for the Vikings to build on that win. However, they were unable to beat the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday, and now they’re hoping to get back in the win column with a victory over the Lions. A loss to the Lions could put a huge damper on any playoff hopes that the Vikings may have.

These two will square off on Sunday, as the Vikings will travel to Ford Field in Detroit to take on the Lions. Let’s take a closer look at both teams so you can bet against their NFL odds.

NFL Betting Preview for Minnesota Vikings vs Detroit Lions

Minnesota Vikings Betting Analysis

While Kirk Cousins has played well for most of the season, the Vikings offense hasn’t been as consistent as head coach Mike Zimmer would like it to be. Even though they’re playing against one of the worst defenses in the league, the Vikings‘ offense could have some issues. Star running back Dalvin Cook separated his shoulder in last week’s game and won’t be available on Sunday. Alexander Mattison has been a formidable replacement for Cook this season, and he should be able to put up some good numbers against Detroit. We’ll also see a steady diet of Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen in this one.

The Vikings’ defense has had some injury issues this season, and they haven’t played up to expectations. We’ll see if an anemic Lions offense is just what they need to get back on track.

Detroit Lions Betting Analysis

Speaking of missing running backs, the Lions will be without their starting running back as well, as D’Andre Swift will be out with an injury. Jamaal Williams will start in his place, and he has been very good in relief of Smith this season. Jared Goff has struggled this season, and it’s not all his fault. Other than TJ Hockenson, the Lions don’t have many receiving weapons. Look for a heavy workload for Williams on Sunday.

Defensively, the Lions are going to have a hard time stopping Thielen and Jefferson. Their secondary has had a lot of issues this season, and we’re not sure how they’re going to slow the Vikings passing game down.

Prediction

The Vikings are seven-point favorites on Sunday. Had Detroit managed the clock better against the Bears on Thanksgiving, they may have very well walked away with their first victory of the season. While they had their chances, they still couldn’t get over the hump. We don’t think that Sunday will be their day either. The Vikings will win by 10 points.
