NY Giants vs. Tampa Bay Odds and Prediction Game | Monday Night Mismatch?

The Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Bucs haven’t looked Super Bowl-worthy in losing back-to-back games, but they are double-digit NFL betting favorites over the New York Giants on Monday night to conclude Week 11 in the NFL.

Tampa visited the Giants on Monday in Week 8 last year and won 25-23. Down 25-17, New York drove 70 yards in 13 plays, the last a 19-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Jones to Golden Tate with 28 seconds remaining. The Giants attempted to tie the score on a two-point conversion, but Jones’ pass to Dion Lewis fell incomplete. Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. seemed to make contact with Lewis and one of the officials threw a flag. But after a long discussion, referee Brad Allen announced that no penalty had been committed. The Giants defense kept this game close partly because of their strong work on third downs. They allowed the Bucs to convert just 33% of their third-down attempts. New York was 3 of 4 in the red zone, which kept them in the game down to the last drive.

Why Bet on NY Giants?

New York (3-6) comes off a bye and upset the Raiders 23-16 in Week 9.  The good news is the Giants now should get a bunch of injured guys back. Star running back Saquon Barkley was back at practice this week for the first time since injuring an ankle more than a month ago during a loss to the Cowboys. Barkley has been nursing a low ankle sprain that took longer than expected to heal. He missed the Giants’ past four games. Barkley should play Monday. He has 54 carries for 195 yards and two touchdowns this season.

“It was awesome just having his presence, even in the huddle,” tight end Evan Engram said. “He’s one of our biggest leaders. Our biggest captains. It’s just good to have him back. I know he’s been itching to get back. He’s going to stay the course, keep working and keep doing what he can to be ready.”

Receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney also are good to go. eft tackle Andrew Thomas, who missed four of the last five games with ankle and foot injuries, has been designated for return from injured reserve and could be activated any time. Thomas returned to the practice field this week. Coach Joe Judge said tackles Nate Solder, Matt Peart and Thomas could all play on Monday.

In their last visit to Raymond James Stadium, Week 3 in 2019, then-rookie quarterback Daniel Jones made his first NFL start, passing for 336 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 112.7 rating and adding two rushing touchdowns in a 32-31 win. Jones became the first rookie with at least 300 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a single game since the league merger in 1970.

On their way to a Super Bowl XLII championship, the Giants opened the 2007 playoffs with a Wild Card victory at Tampa Bay. Including that game, New York has returned victorious in four of its last five trips to Tampa Bay. The Giants also won Super Bowl XXV at Tampa Stadium, a 20-19 win over Buffalo.

Why Bet on Tampa Bay?

The Bucs (6-3) were upset 29-19 at Washington last week. Tom Brady completed 23-of-34 pass attempts for 220 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Only one of Brady’s two interceptions were his fault, but he was often inaccurate. His one highlight was a lengthy touchdown to Mike Evans, taking advantage of single coverage on the outside. Brady leads the league with 27 touchdown passes. In each of his last five home games, he’s thrown at least four touchdowns.

Star Tampa nose tackle Vita Vea was hurt in the loss, but it wasn’t season-ending as first feared. Vea has a slight MCL sprain and a bone bruise and won’t have to miss much time. Seventh-year veteran Rakeem Nunez-Roches, who filled in admirably when Vea fractured an ankle in Week 5 last season, would step in again. Veteran Steve McLendon, inactive three games this season, also is available.

The Bucs have placed cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve. Sherman was diagnosed with a grade 2 calf strain after suffering the injury in pre-game warmups ahead of his Week 10 matchup with Washington. The injury dates back to Week 6 when he left vs. the Eagles.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski hasn’t played since suffering fractured ribs against the Rams in Week 3 but has returned to practice and should go Monday. Gronkowski has recorded 16 catches for 184 yards with four touchdowns in 2021. Receiver Antonio Brown likely will remain sidelined.

The 2020 Bucs never lost more than two games in a row on their way to the title and their leader on the field, Brady, hasn’t lost three in a row since 2002. He could on Monday. The Bucs have slipped 1.5 games behind the Packers and Cardinals for the best record in the NFC but do still have a one-game hold on first place in the NFC South.
