San Francisco vs Seattle | NFL Betting Lines & Preview Game

The Seattle Seahawks have never finished with a losing record since drafting Russell Wilson in 2012. That will change if the struggling Hawks lose as short home underdogs on the NFL odds to the surging San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

In Week 4, the Seahawks won 28-21 at San Francisco. The victory win seemed unlikely at first when the 49ers had an opening drive touchdown and the Seahawks didn’t get a first down for the first 25 minutes of game time, but Russell Wilson threw for two touchdowns, ran for another, and Alex Collins had a pivotal fourth-quarter score., San Francisco turned the ball over twice and another time on downs. Niners starting QB Jimmy Garoppolo left with a calf injury. Rookie Trey Lance played the entire 2nd half and led two TD drives but also had his fair share of mistakes.

Why Bet on San Francisco?

The Niners (6-5) won their third straight game last Sunday, 34-26 over Minnesota. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 230 yards and a TD, but the Niners again did more of their work on the ground with Deebo Samuel’s two scores making him the first receiver since the merger to run for five TDs in a season. Samuel had six carries for 66 yards and also caught one pass for 15 yards before leaving with a groin injury. San Francisco finished with 208 yards rushing on 39 carries.

Elijah Mitchell rushed 27 times for 133 yards and a touchdown, adding five catches for 35 additional yards.  Both his 32 touches and 168 yards from scrimmage were career highs for the rookie. Mitchell has become the new foundation of the 49ers’ run-heavy offense.

Samuel, who had an eight-yard touchdown run in Week 10 and a 25-yard touchdown run in Week 11, is the first wide receiver since 1970 to record a rushing touchdown in three consecutive games. However, he’s not playing this week with that groin issue. Samuel is just the third player in NFL history to record 1,000 receiving yards while scoring five receiving touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns, and he has reached that mark in 11 games. Samuel has been the team’s most productive offensive player, establishing himself as the league’s premier multidimensional weapon.

Star linebacker Fred Warner also will miss this game.  When Warner departed in the third quarter against the Vikings, the Niners turned to Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles to step in at middle linebacker with Azeez Al-Shaair remaining at weakside linebacker. Fellow LB Dre Greenlaw also left Sunday’s game injured and probably won’t play. He racked up seven TFLs and 86 combined tackles last year but has only appeared in two games in 2021.

Why Bet on Seattle?

Seattle (3-8) lost its third in a row Monday, 17-15 at Washington. Russell Wilson led the Seahawks on a 10-play, 96-yard touchdown drive in just over two minutes. He connected with Freddy Swain on a 32-yard TD pass with 15 seconds left to make it 17-15, but his 2-point throw to Swain was picked off by Fuller, preventing Wilson from leading a memorable comeback on his 33rd birthday.

Wilson completed 20-of-31 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. Wilson led the offense to five straight three-and-outs at one point in this one, tying the longest three-and-out streak in the NFL this season. He had been stuck under 200 yards passing until the final drive. In his three starts back from injury, all loses, Wilson has averaged 205 passing yards with a combined 2:2 TD:INT mark. He didn’t even target DK Metcalf until there were just over four minutes to play in the third quarter.

Wilson said that the Seahawks need to give Metcalf more targets moving forward and scheme up ways to do so effectively and efficiently.

“He’s one of the best football players in the world,” Wilson said. “You gotta get him the football, gotta find ways to do it, gotta move him around some more, maybe. So we’re gonna study it and see what we can do. He made the clutch second or third down, I forget what it was on the left sideline. Big play. That was huge because that gave us another chance to keep going. If anybody loves him, I love him. We know that he’s a big factor for us and we gotta be able to utilize him as much as possible.”

With almost every running on the roster dealing with some kind of injury, Seattle’s rushing attack has come to almost a complete stop. Against Washington, Alex Collins lost a fumble and averaged two yards per carry, while DeeJay Dallas managed just four yards on three attempts. Seattle signed Adrian Peterson to the practice squad this week but he won’t play yet.

Seattle must win out to avoid its first losing season since 2011, the year before Wilson was drafted.
