Last Meeting

The teams played in Week 15 last year in Maryland and Seattle won 20-15. Russell Wilson threw for just 121 yards but had a TD pass and also rushed for 52 yards. Dwayne Haskins was the Washington QB then and had 295 yards and a TD with two picks. Washington is 12-9 all-time against the Seahawks, including a 12-6 advantage in regular season play. Washington is 7-2 against Seattle in regular season games since 2000. Each of the last six meetings between Washington and Seattle have been decided by 10 or fewer points.

Why Bet on Seattle?

The Seahawks lost 23-13 at home to Arizona in Week 11. Cards backup QB Colt McCoy went 35 of 44 and thoroughly outplayed Seattle’s Russell Wilson in his first home start since undergoing finger surgery. McCoy threw touchdown passes of 1 and 2 yards to Zach Ertz in the first half, got a bit of luck in the third quarter when a potential interception was overturned on replay, and had his first 300-yard passing game since 2014.

Wilson completed just 14-of-26 passes for 207 yards. He also did nothing on the ground with two carries for two yards. In two games since returning from I.R. with his finger injury, Wilson has thrown for 161 and 207 yards with no touchdowns and a pick. The Seahawks have scored a combined 13 points in their consecutive losses. At 3-7, Seattle has already matched its most losses in any season under Wilson.

“I think what our offense needs to do is forget about the past, stay focused on the present,” Wilson said. When asked about possibly missing the playoffs, he added: “You’re kind of in an early playoffs. It’s kind of like you’re in March Madness but you’re in late-November/December.”

The Seahawks ruled out running backs Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer, and offensive linemen Damien Lewis and Jamarco Jones for Monday night. With Lewis out, one option at right guard could be Kyle Fuller, who opened the season as Seattle’s starting center before Ethan Pocic took over that role.

Coach Pete Carroll said running back Alex Collins will again start. Collins has received ample opportunity with Chris Carson (neck) sidelined this season but hasn’t done anything with it, scoring two total touchdowns and failing to clear 10 carries in any of his past three games.

The Seahawks will welcome back starting right cornerback D.J. Reed, good news for a team that lost its other starting cornerback, Tre Brown, to a season-ending knee injury against Arizona.

Why Bet on Washington?

Washington (4-6) won its second straight game in Week 11, 27-21 over Carolina. Taylor Heinicke completed 16-of-22 attempts for 206 yards and three touchdowns. He added six rushes for 29 yards. Heinicke played one of the best games of his career, finishing with a QB rating of 141.3. Terry McLaurin caught 5-of-7 targets for 103 yards and a touchdown.

Running back Antonio Gibson was benched late in the first quarter after he fumbled in the red zone, but came back to finish strong with 95 yards on 19 carries. Washington ran for 190 yards as a team. Seattle doesn’t allow many explosive runs but it is allowing 122.2 rushing yards per game. It should be a chance for Gibson to put his skills to good use once again.

Tight end Logan Thomas and receiver Curtis Samuel are expected to play Monday, barring a last minute-change in their health. Samuel is listed as questionable; Thomas remains on injured reserve but the expectation is that he’ll be activated in time to play Monday. Both would be limited to a snap count, coach Ron Rivera said, though Thomas probably would play more than Samuel.

Thomas hasn’t played since hurting a hamstring in the first quarter of an Oct. 3 win at Atlanta. He returned to practice Wednesday. Thomas has caught 12 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns this season. Samuel last played on Oct. 10 vs. New Orleans, lasting only two snaps before the injury started to bother him again.

For this game, it’s the first time Washington is appearing and hosting Monday Night Football since facing the Chicago Bears in Week 3 of the 2019 season. It will be Washington’s 73rd appearance on Monday Night Football since the program’s introduction in 1970.

Washington will attempt to snap a seven-game losing streak on Monday Night Football and earn its first victory on the program since a 20-17 overtime victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 27, 2014. Washington is 0-1 against Seattle on Monday Night, with the lone loss coming at FedExField in 2014.
