We have spoken before about how it is often the intangibles that can decide a playoff series between a pair of very evenly matched teams. While discipline is one of the things that are discussed, we don’t often mention the timing of the penalties that a team takes. The Anaheim Ducks have made it all the way to the Western Conference Final in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but have done so in spite of being the most penalized team, not to mention the one that takes bad penalties at the most inopportune of times.

Their most recent error was one that has put them behind in their series with the Nashville Predators. Game 3 looked to be beautifully balanced and heading for OT when the Ducks took a penalty late in the 3rd period. As Nashville have done all postseason, they took advantage of an opportunity gifted to them, with Roman Josi scoring the PP goal that proved to be the winner. The Ducks now really need a win in Game 4 in Nashville on Thursday night, and they are going to need to be disciplined to get it.

Why bet on the Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks may be down in this series, but they have proven to be good in tough situations this postseason. They had a huge come from behind win in game 3 versus the Flames to take a 3-0 lead in that series, and routinely came from behind against the Oilers in the second round. While those were two good teams that they beat, neither one was playing at the level the Predators are right now, especially in their own defensive zone. The Ducks looked to have solved that issue by scoring 5 goals in Game 2 to tie the series, but it was back to business as usual in the last game, with Anaheim held to a single goal. Why bet on the Nashville Predators

The Predators are not a team that are going to blow anyone out, but they do a fantastic job of frustrating the opposition and scoring goals at critical portions of the game. They also win by staying disciplined, and are now the least penalized team left in the postseason. While the Predators are only have a PP efficiency of 16.2%, they have scored their 6 PP goals this postseason at times when those goals really turned the momentum. None of those 6 were bigger than the one that Josi bagged in Game 3, and it has put Nashville in a position to really turn the heat up if they can pick up the win on Thursday night.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Predators are now a perfect 6-0 in their own building this postseason, and no-one will be more aware of that than the Ducks, as they need to win in Nashville if they are to move on to the Stanley Cup Final. I don’t see it happening on Thursday.
