Why Bet on Vegas?
The Knights were 2-1 losers in double overtime on Sunday in Game 6. Marc-Andre Fleury allowed two goals on 29 shots. Fleury was having a solid outing but he really wasn’t challenged much. Logan Couture beat him with eight seconds left in the opening period and Tomas Hertl scored a shorthanded goal in double overtime to force Game 7. The Golden Knights held a 3-1 series lead but Fleury has been outplayed by Martin Jones over the last two contests.Jonathan Marchessault had the lone goal for Vegas. The Golden Knights went into the second period down a goal but some relentless pressure eventually led to Marchessault burying a rebound with his backhand midway through the frame. The 28-year-old forward started the series without a point in the opening two games but he now has a four-game point streak, with a goal in three straight contests.
Despite a scoreless Game 6, Mark Stone is still tied with Max Pacioretty for the league lead in points with 10 (6G, 4A). Pacioretty also went without a point in Game 6 but has 10 points (4G, 6A) in the series. Paul Stastny has centered Vegas’ most efficient line and has posted eight points (2G, 6A).
Penalties have been a theme all series for both teams. If Vegas can allow cooler heads to prevail during after-the-whistle scrums, it will lead to more 5-on-5 hockey during which the Golden Knights have outplayed the Sharks in the series. As noted above, the Golden Knights will contest their first Game 7 in franchise history. Vegas can become the 16th franchise in NHL history to win its first-ever Game 7 and second in as many years; they would join the Jets, who accomplished the feat in the 2018 Second Round (5-1 W at NSH).

Why Bet on San Jose?
Tomas Hertl scored while shorthanded at 11:17 of the second overtime as the Sharks defeated the Golden Knights to force Game 7 in their first-round series. San Jose won to survive elimination and force a Game 7 for the third time in franchise history (also 1995 CQF vs. CGY and 2012 CSF vs. LAK).Hertl became the fifth player in franchise history to score an overtime goal in a game that required multiple overtimes and the second to do so in a contest where the Sharks faced elimination; he joined Ray Whitney in Game 7 of the 1995 Conference Quarterfinals (5-4 2OT W at CGY).
In addition, Hertl became the first player in NHL history to score a shorthanded winner in a game that required multiple overtimes. Only eight other players in NHL history have scored a shorthanded goal in the first overtime of a postseason game. Hertl has five goals and six points in the six games against Vegas in the playoffs thus far.
Logan Couture had the other Sharks goal. Couture made a nice move to give himself just a bit of room to let go of a perfect wrister and beat Marc-Andre Fleury with 8.5 seconds left in the opening frame. Couture has been a great playoff performer for the Sharks, scoring 10 in his last 22 playoff games and 20 in his previous 46.
Martin Jones stopped 58 of 59 shots in Sunday’s win. It was an incredible performance from Jones who was out of this world in both the second and third period, making 33 saves across those two periods. In fact, if it wasn’t for their veteran goaltender, the Sharks would have been blown out of the water in this contest.
Jones has done a complete 180 from the goaltender we saw in the first part of this series, giving the Sharks a lifeline over the final two contests. He set a career-high in saves and broke a franchise record for saves in a postseason game, surpassing Wade Flaherty who had 56 in a 1995 quarterfinal game. Jones also set a Sharks record for most saves in any game, besting the old benchmark of 57 set by Jeff Hackett on Dec. 26, 1992 (7-2 W vs. LAK).
The Sharks, who rallied from a 3-1 series deficit to force a Game 7 for the first time in franchise history, will contest their 11th all-time Game 7 and first since the 2016 Second Round (5-0 W vs. NSH). San Jose is 6-4 in its 10 previous Game 7s, including a 3-1 mark on home ice.
