2022 NFL Betting Preview: Week 1 Sunday Games Early Analysis & Odds

Written by on August 31, 2022

The start of the 2022 NFL regular season is almost upon us, and as is the case every single week of the season, there are a of great storylines to pay attention to. Will Baker Mayfield start life as a Carolina Panther with a win over his previous team, the Cleveland Browns. What will the Steelers look like without Big Ben in the fold, and which dark horse team is ready to emerge and make a serious run? Those are just a few of the burning questions, all of which will be answered over the course of time. For now, we are focusing on Week 1, and in particular, the afternoon games in the opening week. There are 4 of those on tap, so let’s look at the matchups and NFL Odds for each.

Early NFL Betting Preview of Week 1: Afternoon Games on September 11th

New York Giants at Tennessee Titans

It’s another reset for the New York Giants, as they head into the season with Brian Daboll in as their new head coach. He has a tough job ahead of him, but there is some optimism to be found among the Giants faithful. It may prove to be a rocky start, though, as a trip to Tennessee to face the Titans is far from an easy start. The bookies don’t necessarily see this as a blowout, though, as they have the Titans in as a 5 ½ point home favorite. The point total for this one is set at 43 ½.

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings

It’s always fun to start the season with a rivalry game, which is exactly what we are getting here. The Packers won the North in a cakewalk last season, but there are some concerns about what their offense might look like now that Davante Adams is plying his trade in Las Vegas. In Minnesota, we are all expecting Kirk Cousins to put up big numbers again, but can he start winning the big games? This might be a chance for him to get started on the right foot. The Packers are favored by 2 and the point total is 48.

Kansas City Chiefs at Arizona Cardinals

One of the more intriguing teams to watch heading into the season is the Kansas City Chiefs. They lost Tyreek Hill in the offseason, which would make you think that the offense might be set to take a backward step. That’s a brave thing to say, though, when you still have Patrick Mahomes under center and a decent collection of receivers. In Arizona, all eyes are on Kyler Murray after the QB received a massive new contract in the offseason. The Chiefs are in as a 3 ½ point road favorite, with the total set at 53 ½.

Las Vegas Raiders at LA Chargers

The AFC West looks like it might well be the best division in football this season, as all 4 teams looks to have a decent shot at making the playoffs. The expectation is that we are looking at a ton of offense when these teams meet up, and we will get to see if that is indeed the case when the Raiders and Chargers meet in the opening weekend. Given that this division is expected to be tight, these divisional games are going to be huge. The Chargers are favored by 3 ½, with the point total set at 52.
