Rugby Sevens Series Analysis: Top Games For This Week

Matters are slowly winding to a close for the month of December in rugby.

The Rugby League World Cup is well and truly over, while the international window in rugby union has also concluded. This weekend sees Premiership Rugby and the French Top 14 take a break as well, with no more rugby until the end of December.

However, there will still be a flurry of rugby action this weekend, thanks to the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Cape Town. Across three days from Friday, December 9th, until Sunday, December 11th, 16 teams will furiously compete for the third World Sevens Series title of the season.

Here’s a look at some of the best pool matches and Rugby Odds that are coming up on Friday and Saturday.

Weekly Rundown of the Top Rugby Games to Must Bet On: World Rugby Sevens Series

France vs. Fiji (Friday, December 9th at 12:35 PM EST)

Last weekend saw both France and Fiji underperform what they would have hoped to achieve in Dubai.

While France were still admirable, tumbling out in the quarterfinals after being matched against New Zealand, they will want to do better than their fifth-placed finish this weekend. Fiji, on the other hand, did not even make the quarterfinals, finishing third in a tight pool that had New Zealand and Argentina in it.

Again, Fiji find themselves in a tough pool, where they will play one of their early matches against France. This one could go either way, but expect Fiji to rebound and get the victory here. Odds will be out closer to the time but should have Fiji healthy favorites.

South Africa vs. Fiji (Saturday, December 10th at 4:19 AM EST)

Coming off a win last week in Dubai, South Africa will need all the confidence they can get ahead of Cape Town.

The pressure will be on as the host team for South Africa to perform, yet they have been drawn in a difficult pool alongside Fiji and France. They will meet Fiji early on Saturday in a match that could well determine which of these two rugby sevens heavyweights does not progress from their pool into the championship quarterfinals.

Based on the current form, South Africa should win this one. Sevens is a fickle game, however, and post-pandemic, the World Series has been tighter than ever before, so this one is a coin flip. The odds will be out just ahead of the game’s kick-off.

New Zealand vs. Argentina (Saturday, December 10th at 7:48 AM EST)

Finally, New Zealand and Argentina will play out a mouth-watering rematch.

The Argentinians added to their defeat of New Zealand’s 15-a-side team earlier this year by pipping the All Black Sevens team 31-28 in Dubai last weekend. New Zealand will be chomping at the bit for a rematch, which is exactly what they’ll get on Saturday morning in what will likely be a game to decide the winner of Pool C.

Expect New Zealand to not make the same mistakes twice in a row against Argentina here and gain a comfortable win.
