El Trafico Kicks off Weekend of Action

The biggest game this weekend is the Friday night tilt between LAFC and Los Angeles Galaxy. El Trafico is always a big rivalry game and past versions have been wild shootouts with epic comebacks and multiple goal thrillers.

All eyes will be on Banc of California stadium in anticipation of Bale and Chiellini’s debuts. LAFC manager Steve Cherundolo will have an interesting scenario to implement both players, but especially Bale. A workhorse for Wales, Bale didn’t see much action for Real Madrid this season and LAFC could alter the formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 and have him start alongside Carlos Vela.

Cascadia Cup Takes Center Stage Saturday

Staying in the Western Conference with rivalries, Saturday brings the first Cascadia Cup matchup of the season between the Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers. Seattle is three points up on their Pacific Northwest neighbors for the final playoff spot as these teams meet up this weekend.

To add to the animosity between the teams and their fans, the Sounders picked this week to unveil their CONCACAF Champions League winners banner and celebrate the city’s selection as a 2026 World Cup host. Both teams have seen success, in fact one of these squads has played in every single MLS Cup Final since 2015. But Portland lost the Cup at home last year to NYCFC, then had to watch the Sounders lift the CCL trophy in May.

The Timbers have both scored and allowed 29 goals this season, with their defense letting them down on multiple occasions. Portland have had success in Seattle with five wins and two draws in their last seven trips. Seattle hasn’t won at home in the series since 2017 and both teams are relatively healthy for Saturday’s showdown.
