The Basel Open, or Swiss Indoors, is an ATP 500 event that takes place at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, from October 24 through 30. It’s being played simultaneously with the Vienna Open.

This year’s tournament is the 51st edition of the event and first since 2019, as the last two years have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Roger Federer is the reigning champion and won the event 10 times since 2006. The only other winners in that time were Novak Djokovic (2009), Juan Martin del Potro (2012 and 2013), and Marin Cilic (2016). Check out a betting a preview for the top players so you can bet against their ATP Odds.

Top 3 Favorites

  • Carlos Alcaraz (+350)

The world No. 1 opens up the Swiss Indoors against Jack Draper in the Round of 32 today. Alcaraz, 19, has 6,730 ranking points this season and has all but cemented the year-end No. 1 ranking. He’s 52-11 this season and has won five tournaments, including the US Open.

Alcaraz, however, hasn’t played much since the US Open in August and has looked rusty when he’s been on the court. In fact, he’s only played three matches since. He beat Soonwoo Kwon in the Davis Cup and then lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime. Alcaraz played in Astana, Kazakhstan at the beginning of October and lost to David Goffin in the first round.

  • Felix Auger-Aliassime (+600)

There’s nobody hotter than Auger-Aliassime on the ATP Tour right now. The Canadian has won three times this season, including in each of the last two weeks. He’s on an eight-match winning streak after winning the European Open and Firenze Open.

Auger-Aliassime hasn’t been challenged too much in those events as he has had favorable draws. He only played one ranked opponent (Dan Evans) in the European Open and two (Lorenzo Musetti and Brandon Nakashima) in the Firenze Open. He did, however, beat Alcaraz in Davis Cup action last month.

Auger-Aliassime is the world No. 9 and should move into the top eight for a right to compete in November’s Nitto ATP Finals if he can go on a run in Switzerland.

  • Casper Ruud (+700)

Casper Ruud, who lost to Alcaraz in the finals of the 2022 US Open, is also struggling lately. The 23-year-old Norwegian is 1-2 in ATP events since then. He’s coming off of a first-round upset loss to Jaume Munar at the Japan Open.

Ruud doesn’t have the benefit of an easy first-round match in Basel either. He takes on veteran home crowd favorite Stan Wawrinka in the first round. Wawrinka reached the quarter-finals the last time this tournament was played in 2019. Ruud lost in the qualifying draw that year.

Betting Opportunities

Auger-Aliassime seems like the best value bet, considering his dominant play as of late. He also has a favorable draw, opening up against qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler.

Alex De Minaur (+1800) is another good value bet. He made the finals in 2019 as a wild card entrant and is a strong hard-court player. It’s worth noting. However, he opens his tournament against Holger Rune, whom he lost to in the semifinals at the Stockholm Open on Saturday.
