MLB News & Rumors: Tatis 80-Game Suspension, Brantley Will Get Shoulder Surgery

We’re heading down the stretch run of the Major League Baseball season. With less than 50 games to go, teams that are in the playoff hunt are playing every game like it’s their last, while  the ones that aren’t are playing for the future. Even with the season coming to an end, the “Rumor Mill” never stops. Let’s take a look at some of the latest MLB Betting news and rumors in the world of Major League Baseball.

The Latest News and Rumors in the World of Major League Baseball

Did the Fernando Tatis Suspension End San Diego’s World Series Chances?

After it was announced earlier this week that Fernando Tatis had been suspended for 80 games for using a banned substance, teammates had some harsh words for Tatis. Tatis hadn’t played a game this season, as he was still recovering from offseason wrist surgery. Many feel that Tatis injured his wrist while riding a motorcycle, but Tatis has denied that. Tatis said that he inadvertently took the substance to help treat a case of ringworm.

When asked about Tatis, Padres pitcher Mike Clevinger said, “You hope he grows up and learns from this….”. Padres All Star Manny Machado also had some not so pleasant words for Tatis, as he said “He hasn’t been a part of this team all year. We’ve gotten to this point without him.”

The Padres were hoping that the return of Tatis would be just what they needed to make a long playoff run. After making many moves prior to the trade deadline, the Padres haven’t played as well as expected. We’ll see if more players come out and speak out against the immaturity of Tatis.

It’s Never Too Early to Look Ahead

With many teams already out of the playoff race, some teams are starting to formulate their plan for the upcoming offseason. Pitching always seems to be at a premium, and there could be some big pitching names hitting the free agent market this offseason.

The top name on the list is Jacob deGrom. Although he has struggled with injuries, when he’s healthy, he’s arguably the best pitcher in baseball. deGrom has already stated that he will decline his club option for $30 million and will hit the free agent market. He’ll have many suitors lineup up for his services.

Some other names that could hit the market include: Edwin Diaz, Nathan Eovaldi, Clayton Kershaw, Carlos Rodon, Chris Bassitt, Sean Manaea, Martin Perez, Taijuan Walker, and Tyler Anderson. With teams always needing pitching, these names stand to make a lot of money in the free agent market.

Key Injuries for Teams in the Playoff Hunt

We’ve had some huge injuries over the last few days. First off, one of this year’s biggest surprises, Matt Carpenter won’t be in the Yankee lineup for at least six weeks with a foot fracture. The Astros lost Michael Brantley for the season, as he elected to have surgery on his shoulder. White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson will be out for at least a month after having surgery on a ligament in his hand. This was just another in a long line of injuries that have plagued the White Sox this season. All of these injuries could have an impact on their teams in the postseason, or prevent them from making it into the playoffs.
