UFC Vegas 25 is now officially in the books after what was, at times, a brutal affair. As we do every single week, we will get into what happened over the weekend and the impact those events might have on upcoming bouts. There is actually quite a bit to cover in the aftermath of the fight night this past weekend, but we also have some other little nuggets to share besides what went down in Vegas. The first of those is a story about an upcoming title fight that could have been different than what we are getting. You are probably all well aware that Israel Adesanya will be moving back to Middleweight to defend his title against Marvin Vettori in June. This is a rematch of a fight that ended with a split decision the last time these two met, so expect a good one. As highly anticipated as this fight is, it is not the one that was supposed to happen, as Robert Whittaker apparently turned down the chance to fight Adesanya for the title. That has not sat well with Adesanya’s team, who are now suggesting that Whittaker is back at the end of the line when it comes to a title shot. In fairness to Whittaker, had he taken the bout, he would have been doing so on little more than a month’s rest.

When you put a fight in the hands of the judges, you are going to sometimes end up with some controversial decisions. We had another one of those this past Saturday night, with TJ Brown earning a split decision win over Kai Kamaka. Split decisions are often controversial, but this one was especially so, as most fans and fight outlets had Kamaka getting the win. The Kamaka camp was quick to make it known that they will be appealing the decision, so let’s see how that turns out.

We are all awaiting the return of Jon Jones to the octagon this year, and while it has been some time since he has been in a fight inside the octagon, he has made a habit of stirring things up outside of it. The latest war of words has Jones and Francis Ngannou going after one another, leading many to believe that a meeting between the two big men is on the horizon. Jones, though, has made it clear that he expects a big payday upon his return, so who really knows how this is all going to play out.

There was more controversy on Saturday night in the prelims, with one of the fights ending in a disqualification for Randa Markos after she KOed Luana Pinheiro with an illegal upkick. Pinheiro had to be carried out of the octagon by her trainer after laying on the mat for quite some time. One KO that was totally legal saw Jiri Prochazka take out Dominick Reyes with a vicious spinning elbow. It was an absolutely stunning blow and one that earned him a little extra bonus in his fight night paycheck.
