Chookagian versus Fiorot should be an incredibly competitive match. Chookagian has won 4 straight. In her last, a UFC Fight Night this past May, she bested then 11-2 Amanda Ribas via split-decision. 

Manon Fiorot also won her last match. Fiorot beat Jennifer Maia via unanimous decision in a bout that happened in March this year. Fiorot is on a 9-match winning streak. She’s won all 4 of her UFC bouts. At this early stage, Manon is the pick.

Beneil Dariush 21-4-1 vs Mateusz Gamrot 21-1

Dariush’s record isn’t as impressive as Gamrot’s, but the last loss happened back in 2018. Dariush has won 7 straight. In his last bout, a May 15, 2021 fight, Dariush beat Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision at UFC 262.

Mateusz Gamrot is on a 4-match winning streak. Gamrot last fought on a UFC Fight Night card on June 25. Mateusz beat Arman Tsarukyan via unanimous decision. Gamrot is 7-0 via TKO or KO and 5-0 via submission. For now, Mateusz is the play.

Petr Yan -400 vs Sean O’Malley +310

Yan versus O’Malley should be a terrific bout. The chalk in this has a 16-3 record and is 7-0 via technical knockout or knockout victories. 

Yan’s last 4 fights have all been for the bantamweight belt. Petr lost the bantamweight strap in his last bout to Aljamain Sterling. 

Sean O’Malley has a 15-1 record. Marlon Vera beat O’Malley back in 2020. Since the loss, Sean has won 3 straight with a draw. The draw happened in O’Malley’s last bout versus Pedro Munhoz. Sean has a 4-inch height advantage and a 5-inch reach advantage.  

No doubt Yan should be the chalk a month before the bout. But the odds difference makes O’Malley more than playable.

Aljamain Sterling -165 vs TJ Dillashaw +140 | Bantamweight Title Fight

18-4 TJ Dillashaw returns to the Octagon to take on champ Ajamain Sterling in the first of two co-main events at UFC 280.

Dillashaw won his last bought, beating Corey Sandhagen via split-decision. The bout happened on July 24, 2021, which means more than a year will have passed when TJ fights on Oct. 22.

The champ is on a 7-match winning streak and has won 9-of-10. Sterling beat Peter Yan via split-decision in his last bout. Aljamain has a 4 inches reach advantage, which he should use to get past Dillashaw in this.

Charles Olieveira +145 vs Islam Makhachev -170 | Lightweight Title Fight

It’s rare to see a champion go off the underdog. It’s especially interesting that Charles Olieveira is a champion underdog because this will be Olieveira’s fourth title defense. In his last two bouts, Olieveira submitted Dustin Poirier and submitted Dustin Gaethje. 

The fact oddsmakers have set an opening line that favors Islam Makhachev tells us almost everything we must know about the challenger. Makhachev is 22-1. He’s won 10 straight with the last loss happening in 2015. 

Islam is also 10-0 via submission victories. Oct. 22 is Makhachev’s day to shine.
