This time last year, we were heading into the final race of the season with the championship still waiting to be one. For many, the final outcome of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was one that left a bad taste, as a lot of F1 fans thought that Lewis Hamilton was robbed after a controversial decision put Verstappen in front in the final lap, where he went on to take the checkered flag and end the season as the new World Champion. There is going to be no such drama this season, as Verstappen wrapped up his second straight championship with plenty of races to spare. The reality is that the season is ending with a bit of a whimper, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and win some money in the final race of the 2022 Formula 1 season. The Formula 1 Odds are out for the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, so let’s take a quick look at the favorites.

Max Verstappen (+128)

Verstappen saw a 3-race win streak come to an end last weekend in Brazil, where he finished 6^th overall. Is he just seeing out the season, or does he have one more win up his sleeve before we conclude business for the year? Past results would suggest that Verstappen is more than deserving of being favorite for this one. He has won each of the last 2 races in Abu Dhabi and has never been worse than 3^rd in the last 4 runs there. With the pressure off, this could go two ways. Verstappen could go all out to end the year on a winning streak, or he might take his foot off the gas a little. I’m more inclined to believe the former.

Lewis Hamilton (+260)

We have grown so accustomed to seeing Lewis Hamilton make history in F1 that it is more than a little jarring to see him, and Mercedes in general, struggle this season. He is on the brink of making history again, albeit for a reason he’d rather not. Hamilton has gone through the 2022 season without winning a single race, and if he fails to win this weekend, it will be the first time in his tenure with F1 that he has failed to take a checkered flag. Hamilton does have a solid history in Abu Dhabi, winning there 4 times, although that last win came in 2019. Still, he may be worth taking a risk on.

Rest of the Pack

George Russell, who got the win in Brazil last weekend, is in at odds of +360, but without any type of disrespect intended, there is a bigger deal to pay attention to this weekend, Charles Leclerc (+990) and Sergio Perez (+1050) are tied on points right now in the battle for 2^nd, although it is Leclerc who has the edge based on the fact that he has more wins than Perez this season. While Leclerc has the slight edge in the betting odds, I’d be more inclined to take Perez to finish ahead of him, as I think Red Bull Racing will be going all out to get the 1-2 finish in the driver standings.
