NCAAF 2021 Season: Matches To Must Wager On Tuesday

Buffalo at Miami of Ohio (-7.5)

Buffalo is 4-5 overall, 2-3 in the MAC and is coming off a 56-44 loss to Bowling Green on October 30. Running back Dylan McDuffie led the Bulls with 166 yards rushing and two touchdowns.  Miami (OH) is 4-5 overall, 3-2 in MAC play and is coming off a 35-33 loss at Ohio last Tuesday. The RedHawks are led by quarterback Brett Gabbert who has thrown for 1,435 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.

Bulls tailback Kevin Marks is one rushing touchdown shy of tying James Starks (2006-08) for second in school history with 34. Marks is 11 yards shy of becoming just the sixth player in program history to rush for 3,000 career yards.

Since joining the MAC in 1999, the Bulls are 3-8 in games played at Miami’s Yager Stadium. Their last win at Miami (OH) came in 2015.  In its last 34 contests, Miami has had a lead at some point in 29 of those games. The only four setbacks were a 42-10 loss at Buffalo in 2020 and four different losses in 2021. Miami is 15-8 all-time versus the Bulls, but dropped a 42-10 decision last season on the road. The favorite is 10-2-1 ATS in their last 13 meetings.

Akron at Western Michigan (-25.5)

Western Michigan enters this game having dropped back-to-back games following a 42-30 home setback to rival Central Michigan on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Redshirt sophomore QB Kaleb Eleby has passed for 2,253 yards en route to connecting on 13 touchdowns through the air. As a unit, the Broncos average 29.1 points per game, while registering 432.8 yards per game, including throwing for 252.6 yards and rushing for 180.2 yards per tilt.

The Zips went 1-3 in non-conference play with losses at Auburn (60-10), vs. Temple (45-24) and at Ohio State (59-7). They defeated Bryant at home 35-14. In conference play, Akron opened with a 34-17 setback at home against Ohio, then came away with a 35-20 win at Bowling Green. Since then, the Zips have losses at Miami, and at home to Buffalo and Ball State. Oscar Rodriguez Jr. was named interim head coach on Nov. 4, 2021. He is in his third season as inside linebackers coach, and was elevated to associate head coach in the summer of 2021.

Tuesday will be the 21st all-time meeting between Western Michigan and Akron. The Broncos hold a 15-5-0 series lead. Since 2010, WMU has won four of the last five meetings, and have averaged 47.2 points per game in those five matchups. The Zips came away with a 14-13 win at Waldo in 2017, but the last four wins from the Broncos in the series have been by an average of 45.3 points.

The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings.

Ohio at Eastern Michigan (-6)

Eastern Michigan (6-3, 3-2 MAC) is riding high after beating Toledo last week 52-49 to claim its first win inside UT’s Glass Bowl Stadium since the 1999 season and earn bowl eligibility in the process, Nov. 2. Meanwhile, Ohio (2-7, 2-3 MAC) is back on the field following what was arguably its best win of the season, a 35-33 thriller over rival Miami on the same day.

With 52 points against the Rockets, Eastern has now hung 50+ points in back-to-back games for the first time since 2008 when EMU fell to Temple, 55-52, Nov. 22, and defeated Central Michigan, 56-52, Nov. 29. EMU has six wins for just the 29th time in the 130-year program history, and just the 10th time since the team began MAC play in 1976. Chris Creighton has led four of those teams since 2016.

Ohio is averaging 22.7 points per game to go along with 366.0 total yards per game.  De’Montre Tuggle leads the ground game with 608 yards, while averaging 76.0 yards per game, with seven touchdowns on the ground. Quarterback Kurtis Rourke is 126-of-182 with 1,235 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Meanwhile, quarterback Armani Rogers is 29-of-47 with 350 yards.

Eastern Michigan is 12-19-1 against Ohio all-time. EMU has not defeated OU inside Rynearson Stadium since 1999, which was EMU’s last win over Ohio before knocking off the Bobcats in Athens during the 2016 campaign.

The road team is 5-1 ATS in the past six meetings.
