The best reason to bet on Oregon State in this contest is that the Beavers have as much or probably, more overall talent on their roster as Colorado State. Oregon State should also have a healthy dose of motivation following their horrific season a year ago. The Beavers went 4-8 in head coach Gary Anderson’s second season and finished the 2016 campaign ranked an uninspiring 105th in the nation in total offense while averaging a modest 26.2 points per game. Defensively, Oregon State ranked 79th overall while giving up 30.5 points per contest. Running back Ryan Nall (951 yards, 13 TD’s) will lead the Beavers offense this season while transfer starting quarterback Jake Luton eases into his new role. Oregon State is looking for a better season out of big wide receiver Jordan Villamin and will likely utilize athletic returning tight end Noah Togiai a lot more after he was lost for the majority of last season due to injury. The bad news is that the Beavers had to replace three starters on the offensive line. On defense, linebackers Manase Hungalu (83 tackles, 3 fumble recovers, 1 INT) and Bight Ugwoegbu (54 tackles, 11 for loss, 5.5 sacks) will make plays all over the field, but the Beavers’ best defensive player is Freshman All-American, cornerback Xavier Crawford (70 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 1 INT).OREGON STATE BEAVERS TEAM STATISTICS

The best reason to bet on the Rams in their opener is that they’re playing at home and have a really explosive offense, not to mention, their own kind of motivation as they head into Year 3 of the Mike Bobo era. Colorado State’s offense is led by dual threat quarterback Nick Stevens who tossed an impressive 19 touchdown passes against just three interceptions in the Rams’ final seven games last season after regaining the starting job.
