Year one for any coach, no matter their pedigree, is always tough, as they are forced to work with players that they ordinarily wouldn’t have as part of their squad. With that in mind, you have to say that Lincoln Riley had a very solid first season as head coach of the USC Trojans, but the expectations for the coming season are higher still. This is the last time we will see the Trojans in the PAC 12, and I think they bid farewell to the conference by ending the season as champions and doing enough to make it into the top 4.

Over the past few years, the media and other football types have all been hyping the return of the Texas Longhorns to the big time. The bad news is that Texas didn’t seem to get the message, as they have continued to underwhelm. This season, they are once again the sexy pick for many, only this time I think they might actually live up to the hype. I’m not so sure they do enough to get into the playoffs this season, but I certainly think they are more than good enough to end the year as the Big 12 champions before making the move to the SEC.

Getting to the postseason a couple of years ago felt like a win for Harbaugh and the Wolverines, as they had come close so many times.
