After a disrupted 2020 college football season, it is going to be great to see things return to normal this coming season. There are big changes likely coming in the NCAA, with the prospect of the playoffs expanding from 4 to 12 teams now looming on the horizon. We are still a couple of months away from any formal decision being made there, but since it will have no bearing on the coming season, it is a conversation best saved for a later date. For now, we are going to look at the Power 5 conferences and look at who is favored to win each along with their Conference Title odds, so let’s get right to it.
College Football 2021 Conference Championship Odds and Betting Predictions
The Big 12 did away with the Conference Championship after the 2010 season, but it returned back in 2017. Since it’s return, it has been the Oklahoma Sooners who have won it every single year. They are once again favored to win it in 2021 and are currently listed at -165. That seems like a straightforward pick, but maybe we shouldn’t sleep on the Iowa State Cyclones, who led the way in the regular season before losing to the Sooners in the Conference Championship Game. They are currently listed at +375.
The Big Ten was among the most disrupted of the college football conferences last season, but they did manage to get a partial season in and had Ohio State come away with the championship for the 4th straight year. The Buckeyes are in as the favorites again in 2021 at -175. Make no mistake about it, they are the clear favorites heading into this season, with the Wisconsin Badgers considered the biggest threat at +800.
It’s tough to gauge potential favorites based on last season, especially since the PAC 12 was hit ridiculously hard by COVID. That perhaps explains why the odds are a good deal tighter in this conference than anywhere else. It was the Oregon Ducks who were crowned as champions for the 2nd straight season, and they are in as favorites at +240 for the 2021 season. You have 4 other teams who are tightly bunched behind the favorites, and they are – USC (+400), Washington (+400), Arizona State (+475), and Utah (+500). This conference really is wide open.
With 6 wins out of the last 9 SEC Championship Games, it would be easy to simply go ahead and pencil in the Alabama Crimson Tide as the champions again this coming season. The bookies seem to agree, as they have the Crimson Tide in as the favorites at -165. If there is a legitimate threat to the Crimson Tide dynasty this season, it might well come in the form of the Georgia Bulldogs. They are currently listed at +200 and look like a solid team from top to bottom.
A lot can happen over the course of a college football season that could potentially derail a team, but it really is tough to imagine anyone other than the Clemson Tigers winning the ACC. They are in as the overwhelming favorite to win as they look to deliver their 7th straight conference title. They are currently listed as the favorite at -700. The closest rival in the eyes of the bookies is the North Carolina Tar Heels at +700.
