MAD Lions vs MOUZ

  • When: Wednesday, November 10 – 13:30 CEST

MAD Lions and MOUZ will lock horns in the tournament’s opening match for the first time in their history. And even though we don’t have any previous head-to-head record to look at, it’s very easy to understand why MOUZ are expected to win.

MOUZ are fresh off a fairly solid run at PGL Major Stockholm, where they have made it out of the New Challengers Stage but fell flat in the New Legends Stage. MOUZ ended the Major with 4-5, which doesn’t look too good, but there’s more to that record than meets the eye.

MOUZ won against Sharks (16-6), Renegades (2-1), BIG (2-1), and ENCE (2-0), while they lost against Heroic (11-16), ENCE (11-16), Ninjas in Pyjamas (12-16), FURIA Esports (9-16), and Virtus.pro (1-2).

All of their defeats (except for ENCE) came against teams who made it to the playoffs. So MOUZ have essentially lost only against some of the top teams in the world currently. In other words, MOUZ have proven that while they’re not one of the top teams globally, they can compete against anyone.

MAD Lions did not attend the Major, nor did they come even close to it. This is a fairly new team that has achieved plenty of late, albeit most of their success came from minor regional tournaments. Their only notable win in recent weeks was a 2-1 against G2 Esports; however, G2 were at the time struggling with their form.

MOUZ are a better team from top to bottom, and while you could argue that MAD Lions might be able to upset the international squad and steal one map, we wouldn’t count on that happening. Take MOUZ to win 2-0!

Prediction: MOUZ -1.5 maps

Fnatic vs Team Spirit

  • When: Wednesday, November 10 – 20:30 CEST

Fnatic have recently rebuilt their roster and now finally field a competitive squad. However, as good as Fnatic may seem on paper, they have yet to produce any notable results. Regardless, Fnatic are slowly gaining some traction, and winning the DreamHack Open will likely be on the top of their priority list, as they look to establish themselves as a threat to the top European CS:GO teams.

Fnatic enter this match off a solid run through the DreamHack qualifiers, where they took down Eternal Fire (2-1) and GamerLegion (2-1). Not exactly exciting results, but Fnatic are at least winning games, which is a plus.

Had this game been played a month back, we would side with Team Spirit, no questions asked. However, the Russian esports organization recently announced that they’re parting ways with its entire CS:GO roster following this tournament, which could make you question the morale and motivation of their players.

Regardless, Team Spirit shouldn’t be priced at +200 to defeat Fnatic. Yes, they haven’t achieved much recently, and their roster might look weaker on paper, but we have to keep in mind that Fnatic have yet to establish a strong synergy and can be shaky at times.

Fnatic should win, but it won’t be a clean sweep. We expect a close match, which is why we’re betting on over 2.5 maps!

Prediction: Over 2.5 maps
