Team Vitality vs Sprout

  • When: Wednesday, March 16 – 12:30 CET

Team Vitality are billed as one of the favorites to win Group B, which is fair if you consider how stacked this roster is. However, the Bees haven’t been too impressed with their showings of late, and it’s very clear that the French-Danish squad still need a bit more time to gel together.

Admittedly, they’ve now had over two months to form a strong synergy, but until we see them perform up to par with the expectations, we’ll continue to doubt Vitality. Priced as low as -830, Vitality are expected to crush Sprout, which sounds fair. However, at the offered odds, it might be worth exploring options to bet on the German squad.

Sprout have yet to achieve anything noteworthy this season, and they haven’t done well in a top-tier tournament since 2019. Nowadays, Sprout is more a Tier-2 team than proper contenders, but you could argue that they shouldn’t be priced as high as +450.

As Group A taught us, these opening group stage matches can be highly unpredictable and given Vitality’s tendency to drop the ball and underperform even against weaker opponents, betting on Sporrut with a +1.5 map handicap comes off as the best bet.

There’s about a 50/50 chance that this game ends in Vitality winning 2-0 or Sprout claiming at least one map, so we have to side with the outsiders with a map advantage as long as you can grab odds of +100 or better.

Prediction: Sprout +1.5 maps

Outsiders vs FURIA Esports

  • When: Wednesday, March 16 – 12:30 CET

Due to the ESL’s decision to prohibit all Russian organizations from participating in any ESL-hosted tournaments, Virtus.pro roster temporarily left their organization and formed a new team, which they named the “Outsiders.” So even though they’re competing under a different name, this is still the same roster that made the quarter-finals at IEM Katowice.

FURIA Esports are a team that will always demand respect, but you never know how good they’ll actually be. FURIA can compete against the world’s best teams if they feel like it, but we have not seen that type of FURIA for a while now.

They made top-eight at PGL Major Strockhjolm in November but have since managed only fifth-eighth at Pinnacle Winter Series #1, second at ESL Challenger #48, and most recently, they crashed out of IEM Katowice in ninth-12th place.

Nevertheless, we have to keep in mind that FURIA’s only two defeats at IEM Katowice came against the current no.1 team in the world, Natus Vincere, and the eventual finalists, G2 Esports. So while their recent results aren’t great, FURIA haven’t been playing as poorly as it may seem.

FURIA are priced as underdogs for this match (close to +160), which doesn’t seem right. This should be a competitive series, and there’s a good chance FURIA take down the Russian squad.

Prediction: FURIA Esports to win
