Odds to Win the 2019 German Grand Prix

  • Sebastian Vettel +1000
  • Pierre Gasly +15000

Is Lewis Hamilton an overlay or underlay to win the 2019 German Grand Prix?

Formula 1 didn’t race the German Grand Prix in both 2015 and 2017. However, Lewis Hamilton won the German Grand Prix in both 2016 and last year in 2018. Hamilton also won the race in 2011.

To make the argument even more pronounced that Hamilton is an underlay at -165, he’s won 7-of-10 F1 races run this year. That’s a 70% win percentage. Are there any arguments against Hamilton winning on July 28?

Maybe. As great as Hamilton has been this year, he hasn’t won every time he’s gotten behind the wheel of a race car. Hamilton failed at the Australian GP, the Socar Azerbaijan GP, and the Austrian GP. At the Austrian GP, Hamilton finished fifth. Because he’s not unbeatable on Sunday, Lewis Hamilton’s -165 odds are fair, but by no means does his odds make him an overlay.

Do Valterri Bottas’ +250 odds make him an underlay or overlay to win the 2019 German Grand Prix?

Bottas appears to be knocking on the door to another victory. He won the Australian Grand Prix and the Socar Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He finished third behind Max Verstappen at the Austria Grand Prix. He finished second behind Hamilton at the Rolex British Grand Prix.

Bottas also finished second behind Hamilton in this race last year. Bottas feels he can catch Hamilton and win the F1 Title. To do that, he must start turning the tables on his fellow Mercedes driver. Signs point to Bottas on the doorstep of an upset win. That makes him an overlay play at +250.

Which driver among Leclerq, Verstappen, and Vettel can upset Bottas and Hamilton?

Charles Leclerq has finally gotten his Ferrari racing feet underneath him. Leclerq seemed to struggle some at the beginning of the year. He’s picked it up lately with a third place finish at the French GP, a second place finish at the Austrian GP, and a third place finish at the Rolex British GP.

Ferrari believes Leclerq is their next great driver. We have no idea when Leclerq makes that transition with a big win. That big win could happen on Sunday. So, at +900 he’s definitely the choice over Max Verstappen and Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel both at +1000.

Does Pierre Gasly offer fair odds to win the German Grand Prix?

Yes, Gasly offers fair odds, but that might be because he offers 5-digits odds. Gasly often has the fastest car for at least a single lap, but he hasn’t come all that close to winning a race yet.

But, Gasly finished fourth at the Rolex British Grand Prix, ahead of fellow Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. That tells us Grassly can be competitive here. If he gets super lucky, he might pull off the massive upset. Formula 1 handicappers looking to take a moonshot could do worse than to back Pierre Gasly at +15000.
