Bet On Formula 1 at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix and Drivers favored to Win

I think it’s more than fair to suggest that Formula 1 is more popular in Europe and certain other parts of the world than it is in North America.

The popularity of the sport is growing on this side of the pond, though, with a pair of races set fir the US this season, as well as another in Canada. The first of those American races comes this weekend with the running of the Miami Grand Prix.

2. Sergio Perez85 points
3. Charles Leclerc76 points
4. Lando Norris58 points

My Analysis

This is very much a unique type of race, with the tracks going through Hard Rock Stadium, as well as on existing roads that are part of the facility. It is a different challenge for the drivers, but will we see an unexpected result? As always, we have one very definite favorite for the Miami Grand Prix, but maybe we will see a different driver handle this unique circuit. Let’s take a look at the latest Formula 1 odds.

Max Verstappen F1 Race Odds -649

The odds here tell you all that you need to know about Verstappen and his current dominance of the sport. You just don’t tend to see odds this short in motor sports, but Verstappen has become almost impossible to bet against over the past 3 seasons. We are seeing more of the same in 2024, with the 2-time defending champion winning 4 of the 5 races this season. That makes things incredibly difficult for the rest of the pack, and even more so when you consider that the Verstappen has won both previous races in the Miami Grand Prix. At this point, it is impossible not to take him to win, but can any of the other drivers spring the upset this weekend?

Sergio Perez F1 Race Odds +1075

You have to feel some level of sympathy for Perez, as he has to play second fiddle to Verstappen with Red Bull Racing. The move to this team has been good for him, though, as his results have been more consistent during his tine with Red Bull. Perez has been on the podium in 4 of the 5 races this season, which is really all you can ask for when you have one driver essentially winning every race. A podium finish seems to be the ideal way to wager on Perez this weekend, as he finished 2nd in the 2023 version of this race, as well as 4th the year prior.

Other Drivers to Consider the Betting Lines

At this point, we are basically looking at drivers to finish in the top 3, as it seems almost certain that Verstappen will take one of those spots. In terms of consistency, you have to talk about Charles Leclerc (+1075), as he has been no worse than 4th through the opening 5 races of the season, landing on the podium twice during that stretch. He did not have a great run in Miami last year but was 2nd the year prior.

If you are looking for a bit of a longshot, then you might want to consider Lando Norris (+1900) to finish in the top 3. He is coming off a 2nd lace finish in the Chinese Grand Prix, which was his second podium finish this season. He has, though, had zero success in Miami, so keep that in mind when you wager.

Miami Grand Prix 2023 Odds

Formula 1 racing is very much a global sport, although you have to say that its popularity is not quite as big as it is in Europe and other parts of the world. American fans will get a shot at seeing the cars and drivers up close and personal this weekend, though, with F1 heading stateside for the Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix. Heading into this season, there was a concern that we were going to see another lopsided championship race like we did last year, when Max Verstappen had it all locked up with plenty of races to spare. Sergio Perez is making things interesting this time around, and while it’s a bit of a Red Bull Racing domination, it is still good to see a pair of drivers battle it out for top spot. How will the standings look after this weekend? Only time will tell, but let’s take a look at the current Formula 1 odds.

Formula 1 Picks and Analysis: Miami Grand Prix 2023 | F1 Odds

When: Sunday, May 7 at 3:25 pm ET
Where: Miami, USA
TV / Streaming: ABC, ESPN+

Max Verstappen

After a wild weekend in Azerbaijan, the lead at the top for Verstappen is down to just 6 points. Oddly enough, Verstappen is off to a very similar start to last season, winning 2 of the first 4 races of the year. It was at this stage of the 2022 season that he went on a tear, starting with a win in Miami and culminating in 13 wins over 18 races. Whether or not that happens again this season remains to be seen, but having won in Miami last year, there is a very good reason why Verstappen is the clear favorite to win again this weekend.

Sergio Perez

No matter what sport you are talking about, it’s always important to look for trends when it comes time to wager. There is a very definite trend emerging with Perez in that 5 of his 6 wins during his time with F1 have come on road courses. Until he can consistently win on traditional tracks, you do have to wonder if he can continue to keep the pressure on his teammate all the way to the end. The move to Red Bull has proven to be an excellent move for Perez, who finished 3rd overall last season, his best finish in F1. He ran 4th in Miami last season, but I expect a podium finish this time around.

Charles Leclerc

2022 was a great year for Leclerc, who finished 2nd overall, his best showing in Formula 1. Things have not been as good this season, though, as he has failed to finish 2 of the 4 races to this point, while landing on the podium just once thus far. It’s still much too early in the season to declare him out of the championship race, but he does need a good showing this weekend. Given that he was 2nd in Miami last year, so every reason to believe he might do well on Sunday.

Fernando Alonso

Alonso is a veteran of the F1 circuit, winning back-to-back world championships in 2005 and 2006. He hasn’t really been that competitive over the past decade or so, but he has rolled back the clock this year, starting the season with 3 consecutive podium finishes. If he is serious about challenging for the top spot, he needs to turn some of those into wins. He failed to crack the top 10 last season, but I think he is a good top 5 bet this weekend.
