The week of the 2023 U.S. Open is here, and the players have arrived in Los Angeles for the third major tournament of the year. The 123rd playing of the U.S. Open is taking place at the Los Angeles Country Club, right in the heart of the City of Angels.
Every shot in the bag will be needed to win on this golf course that many players are seeing for the first time this week. This will be the first major tournament hosted at the venue and the first PGA Tour event since 1940.
Let’s jump into three early predictions for the golf tournament as Thursday’s first round nears.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our first three pre-tournament US Open Betting predictions for the third major tournament of the year.

Koepka Finishes Top 5
Brooks Koepka captured his fifth major title last month at the PGA Championship last month at Oak Hill Country Club outside of Rochester, New York. Now healthy, Koepka appears back to his old form of dominating the major tournaments as he has in the past.
The 33-year-old already has a pair of U.S. Open titles on his mantle, winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. Koepka followed those wins up with a solo second in 2019 and T4 in 2021.
When healthy, no one in the game of golf has the confidence that the LIV golfer possesses, and he has the game to navigate what is expected to be four days of mental and physical stress. Don’t be surprised if Koepka is at or near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon.
LIV Golfers will Litter the Leaderboard
We mentioned the expectations for Koepka, but don’t be surprised if there are a handful of LIV Golf members scattered throughout the first page of the leaderboard. Dustin Johnson had a solid first day at the PGA Championship before carding three-straight rounds of 74 to take him out of contention. Johnson won the U.S. Open in 2016 and has finished inside the top 25 in his last three outings.
Bryson DeChambeau won the 2020 U.S. Open title and, after missing the cut at Augusta, finished T4 at the PGA Championship. DeChambeau has the length to give himself a lot of scoring opportunities this week, but he’ll need to find the accuracy off the tee to avoid the penal rough.
Finally, don’t count out the defending Open Champion Cameron Smith in L.A. The Aussie has missed the last two cuts at U.S. Open tournaments but posted a T9 at the PGA Championship and has a PLAYERS Championship trophy on his mantle. Smith has the ball-shaping golf game to score at this course that’ll play like many of the courses he finds back home in Australia.
Scottie Scheffler will Rise to the Top
Scottie Scheffler is due for another major title based on the recent play of the top golfer in the world. Scheffler tees it up this week on the heels of four consecutive top 5 finishes and a T10 and T2 at the first two majors of the year.
Already a Masters champion, if Scheffler can figure out his putting, he could dominate this tournament. The 26-year-old has finished T7 and T2 in this event in the last two seasons.
