  • Weather: Sunny

2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic

  • 1-Tacitus
  • 2-Tiz the Law
  • 3-By My Standards
  • 4-Tom’s D’Etat
  • 5-Title Ready
  • 6-Higher Power
  • 7-Global Campaign
  • 8-Improbable
  • 9-Authentic
  • 10-Maximum Security

The 2020 Kentucky Derby winner should grab the lead from the gate. If any horse goes with Authentic, they’re committing hara-kiri. No horse can go head-to-head with Authentic. Swiss Skydiver beat Authentic in the Preakness because jockey Robby Albarado aboard the filly made an early move up the rail. By the time Authentic’s jockey, Johnny Velasquez, saw Swiss Skydiver she was at least a head in front.

Johnny V won’t make that mistake on Saturday. He’ll take the lead and instead of rationing Authentic’s speed allow the Derby winner to run naturally along the backstretch. Johnny knows that if Authentic is ahead, he’ll be very difficult to run down.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Exacta

  • Key Horse: 9-Authentic
  • Horses to Finish Second: 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign, 2-Tiz the Law

The best exacta wager to make is to key Authentic over Maximum Security, Global Campaign, and Tiz the Law. Why those three horses? Global Campaign is a front runner. So is Maximum Security. Both will be closest to Authentic. Tiz the Law can run up front but most likely will be about 2 lengths off the Derby winner. If Global Campaign and Maximum Security bail, Tiz the Law will be in the best position to finish second behind Authentic.

How to Bet the BC Classic Exacta

Decide on a unit cost for your exacta. For example, if your unit is $10, then make a wager keying Authentic over Security, Campaign, and the Law. That will cost you $30. If you want to play a saver, reverse for $5.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Trifecta

  • Key Horse: 9-Authentic
  • Horses to Finish Second: 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign, 2-Tiz the Law
  • Horses to Finish Third: 8-Improbable, 2-Tiz the Law, 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign, 4-Tom’s d’Etat, 3-By My Standards, 1-Tacitus, 6-Higher Power, 5-Title Ready

In a 10-horse field, it makes sense to push the All button for the third slot. Improbable is the likeliest to finish third because he’s the strongest closer. The morning line favorite can also run closer to the pace. He most likely won’t in the Classic, though, because trainer Bob Baffert won’t want all three of his horses battling each other on the lead.

If Improbable doesn’t fire, and don’t forget he heads into this off a lifetime best speed figure which means he’s a candidate to bounce, any horse in the field could finish third.

How to Bet the BC Classic Trifecta

A $1 trifecta with Authentic in first, Maximum Security, Global Campaign, and Tiz the Law in second, and all the 9 horses other than Authentic in third will cost $24. A saver bet would be to put Security, Campaign, and the Law in first, Authentic in second, and All except Authentic in third. That also would cost $24.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Superfecta

  • Key Horse: Authentic
  • Horses to Finish Second: 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign

Adding Tiz the Law would make the superfecta ticket too expensive, which is why it makes sense to key Authentic and then use the other two best speed horses in the race. If neither Maximum Security nor Global Campaign goes after Authentic, they’ll fight each other to the wire for second-place money, which isn’t bad since the total pool is $6 million.

  • Horses to Finish Third: 8-Improbable, 2-Tiz the Law, 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign, 4-Tom’s d’Etat

Adding Improbable and Tom’s d’Etat for third in the superfecta makes sense. Tom’s d’Etat is a talented horse that should fire while Improbable is the best closer in the field.

  • Horses to Finish Fourth: 8-Improbable, 2-Tiz the Law, 10-Maximum Security, 7-Global Campaign, 4-Tom’s d’Etat, 3-By My Standards, 1-Tacitus, 6-Higher Power, 5-Title Ready

How to Bet the BC Classic Superfecta

A $1 superfecta constructed with Authentic on top, Security and Campaign in the place slot, and adding Improbable, Tiz the Law, and Tom’s d’Etat in the show slot with All in the fourth slot will cost $56.

No matter how you construct your wagers on the Breeders’ Cup Classic, good luck!
