Kings vs Bulls First Meeting

The Kings look for the season sweep as they won in Chicago 123-115 on Feb. 3. Domantas Sabonis had 13 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists, De’Aaron Fox had 41 points and Malik Monk 22. The Bulls played without Zach LaVine, Patrick Williams and Dalen Terry because of injuries. Coby White scored 26 points for Chicago, and DeMar DeRozan had 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Nikola Vucevic finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Chicago is 3-7 in its last 10 meetings with the Kings. The Bulls are looking to avoid losing five straight games against Sacramento for the first time since an 11-game skid between the 1999-00 and 2004-05 seasons.

Why Bet on Chicago Bulls?

This starts a four-game West Coast trip for the Bulls. They are off a 113-97 home loss to the Bucks on Friday. Giannis Antetokounmpo dominated with 46 points and 16 rebounds. The Bucks led by 14 at halftime and went on a 17-0 run after Chicago pulled within eight early in the fourth.

Chicago’s DeMar DeRozan became the 35th player in NBA history with 23,000 points. The six-time All-Star scored 12 points — all but two in the second half — and was 5 of 13 from the field after missing his first six shots. It was his third worst scoring total of the season. DeRozan is still averaging 25.9 ppg over his last 10 and leads Chicago in games with 20-plus points this season (41).

Coby White had 22 points. Nikola Vucevic had 17 points and nine rebounds before getting ejected early in the fourth quarter. Upset over a no-call when he missed a shot, he then delivered a hard foul on a driving A.J. Green and got thrown out with 9:27 remaining. He will not face a suspension. With 10 rebounds vs. Milwaukee, Andre Drummond (10,501 career rebounds) moved past David Robinson (10,497) for 33rd on the all-time list. The veteran Drummond ranks second among active players in total rebounds (first: LeBron James, 11,046).

The Bulls rank tied for second in least turnovers per game (12.4), seventh in total points off turnovers (1,032), tied for seventh in points off turnovers per game (17.2), eighth in total deflections (912), tied for 10th in steals per game (7.7) this season and 10th in total steals (462). The Bulls are one of the best teams in the NBA in creating points off their opponents’ mistakes, ranking seventh in total points off turnovers (1,032).

Chicago shot .875 (14-16 FT) from the free-throw line vs. the Bucks, marking its 34th game this season shooting .800 FT% or better. The Bulls rank eighth in the NBA in such games, while sitting ninth in the NBA in FT% (.796) in 2023-24.

DeRozan is averaging 26.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg and 5.0 apg in his last five games versus the Kings. Vucevic (six) and Kings center Domantas Sabonis (six) are two of five players in the NBA to wield six or more games with at least 20 points and 15 rebounds this season.

Why Bet on Sacramento Kings?

The Kings snapped a two-game skid with a 124-120 OT win at Minnesota on Friday in an upset. The Wolves led 120-117 midway through the overtime period before Malik Monk hit back-to-back 3-pointers for Sacramento. The Wolves had a chance to tie it with 17.5 seconds to play, but Naz Reid missed a corner 3 and Trey Lyles hit a free throw to clinch the victory.

Kings leading scorer De’Aaron Fox missed his second straight game with a left knee contusion. Monk exploded for a season-high 39 points as the primary option without Fox. Monk made 16 of 29 shots, including 5 of 8 3-pointers, to make up for the absence of Fox’s 26.9 points per game. Over the last 13 games, the 26-year-old Monk has scored more than 20 points eight times, averaging 19.8 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 boards and 2.0 threes in just 28.1 minutes a contest while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor.

“The great teams always have two or three guys like that where, sometimes you don’t have to call a play, you just say, ‘Here’s the ball — go make a play, for yourself or for your teammates,’” Kings coach Mike Brown said. “And Malik did that. Especially with Fox out, down the stretch we needed somebody to stand up for us and Malik was the guy that did.”

Domantas Sabonis had 21 points, 15 boards and eight assists. Sabonis briefly left the contest and went to the locker room for an undisclosed reason, but he returned and nearly posted another triple-double. He also tied his season high with three blocks.

Since Dec. 1, Sabonis is averaging 20.4 points (62.6 FG%), 13.8 rebounds and 9.1 assists per outing. He leads the NBA in rebounds per game and total rebounds. Sabonis also ranks fifth in assists per game while tallying the second-most total assists. He is one of two players in NBA history to average 20.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists per game on 60.0% shooting over a 40-game span, joining Wilt Chamberlain. He is just one of two players to post averages of 20-10-5 while shooting 60.0% from the floor since Dec. 1.

Davion Mitchell finished with 16 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Rather than Mitchell getting a second straight start in Fox’s place, Mitchell moved back to the second unit and gave way to Keon Ellis. The move seemed to agree with Mitchell, who tied his season scoring high and scored in double digits for only the second time in the last 16 games. Ellis had two points, two rebounds and seven assists in 18 minutes.

Fox is questionable for Monday. Over his last five games, Fox is averaging 31.6 points (52.1 FG%), 7.2 re- bounds, 7.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. He is one of three players to accrue averages of 30.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and shoot 50.0% from the field during their last five contests.
