Series History

First meeting this season. They split last year, each winning at home. The teams have met 53 times overall, with the Lakers leading 31-22. Los Angeles is 13-10 all-time against Toronto at Crypto.com Arena. In the two teams’ 20th meeting on Jan. 22, 2006, Kobe Bryant had a career night, scoring a team-record 81 points – including 55 points in the second half — at Staples Center. Bryant’s point total is still the second-best single-game performance in NBA history.

Why Bet on Toronto Raptors?

The Raptors are 2-1 on five-game trip through the West following a 133-118 blowout win at Golden State on Sunday in easily one of the team’s top games of the season. Recently acquired RJ Barrett produced 37 points, six rebounds and six assists. Barrett was held below 20 points during each of his first three appearances in a Raptors uniform, but he put together a stellar performance that included a season-high scoring mark.

@ Kings – L135-130
@ Grizzlies – W116-111

@ Pistons – L129-127

Barrett is averaging 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 31.4 minutes while shooting .538 (28-52) from the field, including .526 (10-19) from three-point range through four games with Toronto. Barrett’s 84 total points are the third most by a Raptor through their first four games with the franchise. Only Kawhi Leonard (112; Oct. 17-24, 2018) and Rudy Gay (97; Feb. 1-8, 2013) had more.

Jakob Poeltl had 14 points and 11 rebounds. He’s posted three double-doubles over his last six appearances and has averaged 10.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.7 blocks in 30.2 minutes per game during that time.

The Raptors scored 133 points in Sunday’s win and shot a season best .585 (55-94) from the field. It marked just the fourth time in franchise history where Toronto has scored 130 points in consecutive games (Jan. 5-7) and second time this season. The Raptors are 35-4 (.897) all-time when recording 130+ points. Over the last five games, Toronto is averaging 126.0 points (second in NBA in this span) and shooting 52 percent (231-444) from the field, including 42 percent (63-150) from three-point range.

Toronto has had at least 25 assists in a team-record 19 straight games, the longest active streak in the NBA. Toronto is averaging 30.7 assists over this stretch. The Raptors join Golden State (3X) as one of just two teams over the last 30 years to record such a streak in a single season.

That Toronto bench has scored 40+ points in consecutive games for the first time this season. Chris Boucher and Dennis Schröder have led the way with each averaging 15.5 points on 75 percent (12-16) and .619 (13-21) shooting, respectively. Boucher scored a season-high 17 points in Golden State.

Both the Raptors (1st; 17.9) and the Lakers (5th; 16.4) rank in the top-5 in the NBA in fast break points. Toronto is outscoring opponents by 156 (646-490) on the fast break this season. Scottie Barnes holds career averages of 24.3 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in four career games vs. the Lakers.

No key Raptors are expected to miss Tuesday’s game.

Why Bet on Los Angeles Lakers?

The Lakers snapped a four-game skid by upsetting the red-hot Clippers on Sunday, 106-103. LeBron James accumulated 25 points, eight boards and seven assists. Led by James and Anthony Davis, the Lakers played aggressively and pulled out a win that was more decisive than what was indicated with the final score. Having called out his team following Friday’s loss to the Grizzlies, James stepped up on Sunday to help the Lakers pick up a much-needed win. The Lakers’ shaky play actually extended back 13 games, as they were just 3-10 since winning the in-season tournament coming into Sunday.

vs Heat – L110-96

“Try to use this to try to catapult a little bit better play from us,” James said after. “But it still doesn’t take away from the fact of how we’ve been playing like the last 11, 12 games. Tonight was a good start. Hopefully we can start from here and continue to build.”

Davis logged 39 minutes Sunday and had 22 points and 10 boards for his 29th double-double of the season. Just as crucial against the Clippers was Davis getting some help in the paint, with Christian Wood accounting for nine points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one 3-pointer in 16 minutes off the bench.

“Just came out with a sense of urgency. We played hard,” Davis said after the win. “We played like we needed to win, like it was a must-win. Competed on both sides of the basketball. We just got to build off it. We know what we have in this locker room, we know what it takes to win and we displayed that tonight.”

Guard D’Angelo Russell had 13 points and 6 assists in his Russell return from a three-game absence due to a tailbone contusion and delivered a respectable performance off the bench. Head coach Darvin Ham appears set to stick with Austin Reaves as the team’s starting point guard moving forward, as Russell had been demoted to the second unit even before the tailbone injury surfaced.

Coach Darvin Ham said the top-to-bottom team effort has to be the Lakers’ standard going forward. There has been some talk that Ham could be in trouble. But despite all that, Ham himself doesn’t feel like he’s coaching for his job.

“Nah, I don’t,” Ham said prior to the Lakers’ contest against the Clippers. “I feel like I’m coaching a hell of a franchise and it comes with the territory when you’re a coach in this business. I’ve seen a lot of coaches come and go, good ones, some that had some bad circumstances around them. But in no way, shape or form do I feel that way.”

Los Angeles remains without the injured Gabe Vincent and Rui Hachimura. Vincent has played just five games this season while continuously dealing with swelling in his left knee and won’t be back for perhaps a couple of months. Hachimura picked up a Grade 1 calf strain against the Pelicans on Dec. 31 but is getting close to a return.
