NCAAF 2020 Season Week 12 SU Picks Expert Analysis

Written by on November 16, 2020

This college football season has been a strange one, and as the weeks continue to pass, it may get stranger still. We are now routinely seeing game get postponed due to COVID, which makes it tough to figure out who will be where in the rankings once this season is all over with. The game between Arizona State and Colorado for Week 12 has already been postponed, but we suggest keeping an eye out for more, as that list is likely to grow. We will be making our picks for the week with the assumption that the games we are playing will go ahead, but there is zero guarantee of that, so just keep an eye on the news for further information. For now, let’s get the ball rolling by looking at the SU picks we have for Week 12 so you can go ahead and make your bets against their NCAAF odds.

LSU Tigers over Arkansas Razorbacks

If this game goes ahead this weekend, it will have been 3 weeks since the LSU Tigers took the field to play a game of football. It has been a strange sort of season for every team taking part in the season, but it has been particularly odd for the defending champions. They have not been able to get anywhere close to the form they displayed last season, thanks in large part to the absence of QB Joe Burrow, who is now playing his trade in the NFL. The Tigers are 2-3 on the season and will have a tricky one on the road to Arkansas this weekend. The Razorbacks were destroyed by Florida over the weekend to fall to 3-4 on the season. Neither of these teams have played great defense, but I think that LSU will get the edge in what could be a shootout.

SMU Mustangs over Houston Cougars

When trying to make SU picks in games where the bookies have it as a tight one, it is often a good idea to look at how teams have performed against the spread, as well as SU, in previous meetings. There is one trend in there that might well give a clue to how this one goes. With a 7-2 record on the season, the Mustangs are having themselves a very decent year. You look at their record versus the 3-3 record of the Houston Cougars and you immediately get a good feeling about taking the Mustangs to win. There are some other details that help swing you in that direction, starting with the fact that the Mustangs are 3-1 SU at home. Sealing the deal, though, is the fact that the home team has covered in each of the last 4 meetings between these teams. Give the nod to SMU.

Iowa Hawkeyes over Penn State Nittany Lions

After a very rough start to the season, the Iowa Hawkeyes have turned things around in rather dramatic fashion. The come into this one on the heels of back to back wins, a pair of game that saw them outscore the opposition by a combined 84-14. They were favorites in both of those games, but not by a lot, which makes the margin of victory in both wins all the more impressive. This weekend, they will face a Penn State team that is on the ropes after an 0-4 start to the season. The Nittany Lions started as the favorite in 3 of those 4 games, so this start really is rather baffling. I think the Hawkeyes make things even worse for Penn State by wimning again this weekend.
