Last week they erased a nine-point Arkansas fourth-quarter advantage with a pair of scores, taking the lead at 28-23 with 2:22 left in the game only to see the Razorbacks go ahead 31-28 with a touchdown and two-point conversion with only 21 seconds left on the clock.

Offensively, the Bulldogs looked as they have all season, relying almost exclusively on the passing game, but gave up 202 yards rushing to Arkansas, over double their season average per game on the ground.

Mississippi State has had times when they’ve looked almost unbeatable, as during their 31-17 win over Kentucky, and others, like on Arkansas’ winning drive, where they haven’t been able to make key stops.

The Tigers are still in contention in the SEC West, but the loss to Texas A&M highlighted their inability to move the ball against the top defenses in the conference, with an earlier 34-10 loss to top-ranked Georgia and a 28-20 defeat at Penn State.

Saturday at College Station, Auburn managed just 226 total yards, including 73 yards on the ground, with an anemic average of 2.5 yards per rushing attempt.

Conversely, Texas A&M ran the ball at will against the Tigers’ defense, averaging almost 6.5 yards a carry and racking up 219 yards on the ground, despite failing to score an offensive touchdown, which neither team was able to accomplish.

Auburn has had consistent success against lesser defensive units, averaging almost 184 rushing yards a game and 5.3 yards per attempt.
