Detroit Lions Upstart 2023-2024 Season

Dan Campbell and his Detroit Lions have had an amazing 2023-2024 season. The Lions have a chance to head to the NFC title game, and get the chance at home. The Lions went 12-5 in the regular season, and ran away with the NFC North. The Lions won the division by three games. Detroit went 6-2 at home this season, and 8-4 against NFC opponents. The Lions scored 461 points and allowed 395.

Detroit started the season with a bang, beating the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs. The five Detroit losses this season came at home to Seattle and Green Bay, and on the road at Baltimore, Chicago and Dallas. The Lions won three out of their last four games, and in each of those three games scored 30 or more points.

On the season, the Lions scored 27.1 points per game. Quarterback Jared Goff finished the regular season with 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns. His top target was Amon-Ra St. Brown, with 119 receptions, 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. Sam LaPorta, from Iowa was also one of the top tight ends in all of the National Football League.

Detroit finished second in passing yards and fifth in rushing yards. David Montgomery was of the legs of the two legged monster for the Lions. Montgomery carried the football 219 times for 1,1015 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jahmyr Gibbs was great as well, falling 55 yards shy of 1,000 on the season, and 10 touchdowns.

In the postseason win over the Rams, Montgomery rushed 14 times, with Gibbs getting 8 carries.  Both got into the end zone for a touchdown. St. Brown was elite in the win for the Lions with 110 yards receiving. The touchdown in the passing game from LaPorta, who finished with just 14 yards in the game.

Detroit Defense

The defensive unit for Detroit is led by linebackers Alex Anzalone and Jack Campbell, along with defensive end Aidan Hutchinson. Anzalone and Campbell led the team with 129 and 95 tackles respectively. Hutchinson was the man getting to the quarterback. He finished the regular season with 11.5 sacks.

Safety Kerby Joseph led the team with four interceptions on the season. Brian Branch and Jerry Jacobs also recorded three for Detroit. Branch was the lone Lions defensive player to record a touchdown, with an interception returned to the house.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Winners of NFC South

It took all 17 games, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NFC South for the third straight season. The Buccaneers needed a win in Week 18 over Carolina to seal the deal. A season ago, Tampa was downed in the wildcard round. The Buccaneers started the season 3-1, before losing in six of seven games.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked great in the postseason win over the Eagles. Baker Mayfield was terrific with 337 yards passing, and 3 touchdowns. Chris Godwin caught one of the touchdown passes, but was limited to just 45 yards. Mike Evans only had 48. The two other touchdowns for the Buccaneers went to David Moore and Trey Palmer.

Mike Evans is the man in the offense. He caught 79 passes for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. Mayfield tossed 28 on the season, with 13 of them to Evans. In the running game, Rachaad White was terrific. The back rushed 272 yards and 990 yards and 6 touchdowns. White was also tough in the passing game for Tampa Bay.

Despite a nice season from White, the Buccaneers were the worst rushing team in the league, with 88.8 points per game. The passing game finished 17th with 224.2 yards per game. On the season, Tampa Bay scored 20.5 points per game, and allowed opponents to score 19.1. In the Buccaneers last five wins, they allowed just a total of 75 points.

Talent on the Defense Too

The big names for the Buccaneers on the defensive side of the ball for Tampa Bay are Lavonte David, Antoine Winfield and Devin White. Those three lead the team in tackles. David is the top tackle guy for Tampa Bay, with 134, despite missing two games this season. When it comes to getting to the quarterback; Yaya Diaby is the top sack man with 7.5 on the season. Vita Vea recorded 5.5 and others have 4.5 on the season.

The Buccaneers recorded 13 sacks on the season, and recovered 13 fumbles. Despite that, they scored just one defensive touchdown on the season. That touchdown came from linebacker Shaquil Barrett, on an interception return.
