Why Bet on Houston?

The Texans were lucky to win 13-12 last week at home vs. Jacksonville, stopping the Jags’ winning 2-point conversion right at the goal line. Deshaun Watson completed just 16-of-29 passes for 159 scoreless yards. The passing yardage was his fewest since he threw for 139 yards against the Jaguars on Oct. 21, 2018. He did score the Texans’ only touchdown of the game, his ninth career rushing touchdown. He now holds the Texans’ franchise record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.

Watson was sacked four times by the Jaguars, marking the eighth consecutive game Watson has been sacked four or more times in a game. Watson is now tied with Blake Bortles (2014-15) and Jeff George (1997-98) for the longest streak of games taking four or more sacks since it became an official stat in 1982.

DeAndre Hopkins caught just 5-of-8 targets for 40 yards in the win. He was wrapped up in Jalen Ramsey’s coverage all day. Carlos Hyde rushed 20 times for 90 yards. Linebacker Whitney Mercilus was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 2. Mercilus recorded a pair of sacks and forced two fumbles. That was a week after he recorded a sack and picked off Drew Brees in the red zone Week 1.

Starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil expects to play against the Chargers in Week 3. Tunsil exited Week 2 with an ankle injury but only missed a handful of snaps. Coach Bill O’Brien said Tunsil’s injury isn’t “too bad” while expressing little concern for his Week 3 availability.

The Texans waived punter Trevor Daniel and signed Bryan Anger to replace him. Anger was with the Texans during the preseason. Daniel ranked 20th in the NFL in net average punt yards through two games this season.

Why Bet on LA Chargers?

The Chargers could be 0-2 but got a bit lucky Week 1 vs. the Colts and then lost in Detroit last week 13-10. Philip Rivers completed 21-of-36 passes for 293 yards and one interception vs. the Lions. Rivers struggled under pressure throughout the afternoon without Hunter Henry (knee) and, additionally, Mike Williams on a snap count. In the final minute of regulation with a chance to send it to OT, Rivers forced a ball to Keenan Allen and was picked off.

Rivers started his 210th consecutive game, tying Eli Manning for the second-most among QBs all-time and tied for the sixth-most consecutive starts among NFL players since 1970. Rivers (55,282) also became just the eighth player in NFL history to reach 55,000 career passing yards. This week, he can climb another prestigious list in NFL history.

Texans vs Chargers is going to be a close one.

With 300 yards passing at home vs. Houston Rivers (63) will surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (63) for sole possession of fourth on the NFL’s all-time list of 300-yard passing games, trailing only Drew Brees (116), Peyton Manning (93) and Tom Brady (88).

Williams, who was listed as questionable coming into Sunday’s game, recorded 83 yards receiving on three receptions, including a diving 47-yard grab at the end of the first half that set up a Ty Long field goal. Running back Austin Ekeler tallied 133 total yards at Detroit, including 66 yards rushing and 67 yards receiving, moving into fourth in Chargers history in receiving yards by an undrafted running back.

Strong Defense & New Weapons

The Chargers limited the Lions to 94 yards rushing on 28 carries, a stingy 3.4 yards per carry, after allowing 203 yards on 33 carries (6.2 yards per carry) to the Colts in Week 1.

According to head coach Anthony Lynn, safeties Jaylen Watkins and possibly Nasir Adderley will see an increase in playing time after safety Adrian Phillips suffered a broken arm in the Chargers Week 2 loss against the Lions.
