Olympic Tennis Women’s Tournament

  • Marketa Vondrousova / Naomi Osaka

Vondrousova has looked great in a couple of matches. But she faces a rejuvenated and motivated Naomi Osaka on Tuesday. Osaka has yet to lose a set during the Olympics. She should have no trouble winning this.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Naomi Osaka

  • Karolina Pliskova / Camila Giorgi

Like Osaka, Karolina Pliskova won her first couple of Olympic matches. Unlike Osaka, Pliskova struggled in her second match versus Carla Suarez Navarro. Pliskova required 4 sets to beat Navarro. Camila Giorgi took care of Jennifer Brady in the first round and Elena Vesnina in the second round. Both wins happened in straight sets. Giorgi has a shot at the upset.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Camila Giorgi

  • Maria Sakkari / Elina Svitolina

This should be one of the Olympic’s most competitive matches. Both Sakkari and Svitolina compete at the highest-level. Sakkari won her first couple of matches in straight sets. Svitolina required 3 sets to beat both Laura Seigemund and Ajla Tomljanovic. But although Svitolina had to work hard to get to this point, she could be ready to pounce. Svitolina gets the nod.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Elina Svitolina

  • Donna Vekic / Elena Rybakina

Vekic has played 8 sets in 2 matches. She should be too tired to take on Elena Rybakina. So even though one of Vekic’s victories was against Aryna Sabalenka, Vekic had to work much too hard to get it. Rybakina should roll to a 2-set, maybe, 3-set victory.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Elena Rybakina

Olympic Tennis Men’s Singles

  • Fabio Fognini / Daniil Medvedev

Once in a while, Fabio Fognini plays tennis like one of the best in the world. Daniil Medvedev won the 2020 ATP Championship. So we know he can play tennis. But Medvedev has played okay, not great, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That could open the door for Fognini to pull off the upset.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Fabio Fognini

  • Pablo Carreno Busta / Dominik Koepfer

Koepfer struggled against Facundo Bagnis in his first round match. The German player bounced back with a nice 2-set victory over Max Purcell in his second. Pablo Carreno Busta got past Marin Cilic in his last. Carreno Busta had to work hard. But his opponent, Cilic, is a tough customer. Give Carreno Busta the nod.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Pablo Carreno Busta

  • Alexander Zverev / Nikoloz Basilashvili

Zverev has won both of his Olympic matches in straight sets. Basilashvili is a good tennis player, but Alexander is on a roll. Zverev has won a couple of singles titles this year. He wants to add a gold or silver medal. Expect Zverev to grab the victory, probably in 2 sets.

Olympic Tennis Pick: Alexander Zverev

  • Novak Djokovic / Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

If Djokovic wants the gold medal, it’s his. A player like Alejandro Davidovich Fokina shouldn’t win more than a few games against Djokovic. Tennis handicappers should be surprised if this goes past a couple of sets.
