In soccer, the top teams are judged by the amount of silverware that they win in a single season.
For the best teams in the world, winning nothing usually means that a major overhaul happens in the off season, while the teams that do win things try to strengthen their squads in hopes of staying at the top.
My Analysis
Last season was a good one for Real Madrid, as they finished things off by winning LaLiga and the Champions League.
That is a nice haul and is one that fans will be expecting they should repeat this season.
All we are concerned about here is the Champions League, so let’s look at their odds to repeat.
^Champions League Season Sneak Peek
It should be noted that it is always tough to make a serious prediction when there are so many details that we do not yet know.
The transfer window is still wide open in Europe, with Real Madrid still expected to do a lot of business before it closes.
We also don’t know which teams will be playing in the new Champions League format, and perhaps more importantly, which teams will be going head-to-head.
^Kylian Mbappé
They have also gone with another young player they expect big things from in Endrick, but he will be a bench player this coming season and might not see a lot of time on the field in the Champions League.
In terms of outgoings, Toni Kroos retired this off season, while goalkeeper Kepa moved on, so you can bet that Madrid will be looking for a replacement between the sticks.
^Madrid Always Qualifies
While the Champions League format will change this season, with groups scrapped in favor of one big league, it would be an absolute stunner if Madrid did not make it out of the league and into the knockout stage of the tournament.
In the last 4 seasons, they have at least made it to the semi-finals, so they are always a good bet to make a deep run.
That said, as the defending champions, they are going to have a massive target on their back heading into this season’s tournament.
^Champions League Betting Prediction
As it stands at the moment, the bookies certainly seem to think that the Spanish giants are once again going to be in the mix.
While it is Manchester City who are in as the favorite to win it all this season, Real Madrid are right on their heels in terms of odds.
They are currently at +296 to win the Champions League, which is likely to be the best odds you are going to get on a team that always seems to be in the final four.
Again, we are going to be keeping an eye on the Preliminary Round to see which teams make it into the league stage of the tournament.
Once we know that, we will quickly find out the matchups, which will give us a better idea of whether Real Madrid’s odds to win the Champions League represent good value.
