There is certainly no debating the fact that Formula One racing is one of the most exciting sports in the world. If there is a knock on it, though, it’s that we tend to see one driver dominate proceedings more often than not. Michael Schumacher did it for years, as did Lewis Hamilton, while it now looks like Max Verstappen, who has won back-to-back World Championships, might be the next to seize total control. As fans of the sport, we are all crying out for a 2- or 3-horse race that would go all the way to the final Grand Prix of the season. We are only two races into the new season, which is very early in the grand scheme of things, but we have had the same 3 drivers on the podium in both races. If that trend continues, we might just get the battle we are all hoping for. This weekend, the drivers are in Australia for Round 3 of the F1 season, but who will come out on top? Let’s take a quick look at the current Formula 1 odds.

Formula 1 Picks and Analysis: Australian GP 2023 | F1 Odds

Max Verstappen (-289)

You might not like it, but you had better get used to the fact that Verstappen is more than likely going to be the favorite for every race this season. He has certainly earned that label, as he has won the World Championship 2 years in a row, winning it last season with plenty of races to spare. It looks as though he will be up there again this year, as he opened things up with a win in Bahrain, which he followed up with a 2nd place finish in Saudi Arabia. He is at the top of the driver standings, but his lead is by just a single point. He has never won in Australia and was forced to retire there last year. Might we see him lose the lead this weekend?

Sergio Perez (+430)

When Lewis Hamilton was winning all his championships, he had a great teammate at Mercedes in Valtteri Bottas. The elite drivers need a good teammate, which is what Verstappen now has at Red Bull Racing with Sergio Perez. He has improved by leaps and bounds since making the team switch, and while it is still very early in the season, he might just be the one to challenge Verstappen this season. Perez finished 2nd to his teammate in Bahrain in the opening race of the season before taking the checkered flag in Saudi Arabia. It’s an encouraging start, but Perez will be aware that he had 2 wins in his best season, which came last year, and that he will need more than this 1 victory if he is to push the champ all the way. He ran 2nd in Australia last year.

Fernando Alonso (+610)

The harsh reality of F1 is that drivers need to win regularly If they are to make a serious push for a World Championship. While Alonso is off to a good start, finishing 3rd in both races to this point, he is not going to challenge for a title if he can’t start picking up some wins along the way. Hurting his cause is the fact that he last won an F1 race back in 2013, so you have to wonder if his positive start is a mere blip on the radar or a sign of something bigger.
