IndyCar 2022 GMR Grand Prix Betting Analysis: Odds Favorites to Win the Race

We are 4 races into the 2022 IndyCar season, and we have an incredibly tight race going on at the top of the driver standings. Fans are looking ahead to the Indianapolis 500, which comes in a couple of weeks, but we have some business to attend to before we get to the big race. We are talking about the GMT Grand Prix, which goes this coming Saturday at 4 PM on the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This is an opportunity for the drivers to get a little taste of the iconic track before racing in the big one. Let’s look ahead to the GMR Grand Prix and take a peek at some of the IndyCar Betting Odds favorites who might be able to make a big impact in Indianapolis.

2022 GMR Grand Prix | IndyCar Betting Analysis

Alex Palou

Last season’s champion is going all out to show that his victory in 2021 was no fluke. He has yet to record his first win of the season, but he has been in the hunt in all 4 races and has picked up enough points to be atop the driver standings. That is courtesy of 3 podium finishes from the opening 4 races, which is an impressive start to the season. A big part of Palou’s success last season came in Indianapolis, and while he failed to win both races on that track in 2021, he did pick up valuable points with a pair of podium finishes.

Scott McLaughlin

Last season was the first full year in IndyCar for McLaughlin, delivering a performance that didn’t really catch the eye. He failed to pick up a single win and only had 1 podium finish through 16 races. There was nothing to suggest that he would be a challenger this season, but that is exactly what he is, as he is currently sitting 2nd in the driver standings. He got the ball rolling with a win in the opening race of the season and followed that up with a 2nd place run in the following race. McLaughlin has since cooled off a little, but his early form suggests he might be in the hunt this weekend.

Josef Newgarden

Consistency is key when trying to win a World Championship, which is something that Newgarden knows all about. Over the last 6 years, he has won a pair of titles, finished 2nd overall 2 more times, and has never been worse that 5th overall in the driver standings. That type of form makes him a threat in every single race, so we can certainly expect him to be among the leaders this coming weekend. He already has a pair of wins this season and has had plenty of success in Indianapolis over the years. He is my pick to win this weekend.

Will Power

This is another driver who is consistently at or near the top of the driver standings every single year. While he only has 1 world championship to his name, he has been close on several other occasions. Power is looking to bounce back after a disappointing season in 2021, where he finished 9th overall. He has made a fantastic start to this season and has not been worse that 4th through the opening 4 races. He had a poor showing in Indianapolis last season, but he won at this track in 2020, so cannot be counted out.
