In sport, there is nothing better than going into the final week of the season in control of your own destiny, unless of course the title is clinched in advance of the last day. In the WRC, there are only 2 drivers left with a shot at winning the World Championship heading into the final race, and only 1 who is in control of his own destiny. It is Sebastien Ogier who is in control as the driver’s head to Monza for the final race, as all he needs to do is finish in the top 3 this weekend to clinch what would be his 8th title. Elfyn Evans has a shot at catching Ogier and there are several different permutations that come into play if he wins. In short, it all depends on what Ogier does this weekend that will affect the final outcome. Let’s now take a look at the current top 4 WRC Betting options, as these are the guys who could impact what happens.
2021 FORUM8 ACI Rally Monza Analysis | WRC Betting
It would be a brave person who bets against Ogier winning it all this weekend in Italy. As mentioned earlier, Ogier has won the World Champion 7 times already, so he knows exactly what it takes to handle the pressure of a big race with everything on the line. So, as we have already discussed, Ogier, who has a 17-point lead at the top, needs to finish 3rd or better this weekend to automatically win it all. Given his track record, this would seem like a bit of a gimme, but the problem here is that he has landed on the podium just once in the last 5 races. If he finishes outside of that top 3, then he has to be concerned about where Evans finishes. This is the 4th tarmac race of the season, with Ogier winning 1 and finishing outside the top 3 in the other races. He did win at Monza last season.
No matter what happens this weekend, you have to give credit to Evans for making this thing interesting all the way to the final race. With Ogier faltering a little over the past few races, Evans has continued to chip away at the lead, with a 1st and 2nd place finish in the last 2 races making things incredibly close heading into Italy. There are way too many different scenarios in regards points picked up this weekend to list here, but Evans best shot at winning the World Championship is to win at Monza. He had a poor run there last season, but he has been good on tarmac in 2021, picking up a pair of 2nd place finished and a 4th.
Thierry Neuville and Kalle Rovanpera
Neither of these drivers can win the title, but they could have a run in Monza that has an impact on how the points are shared. Neuville has won 2 of the 3 tarmac races this season, while finishing on the podium in the other, so he would certainly be a good bet. Rovanpera has picked up 2 wins in the last 5 races and also needs to be considered a threat here. He ran 5th at Monza last season.
