WRC 2022 Rally Monte Carlo Betting Analysis & Prediction

When we talk about all-time greats in professional sports, we tend to mention names like Tom Brady, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, and more. We don’t often hear much chatter about motor sports and the legends that dominate there, but we have one in the WRC. Sebastian Ogier has won 8 of the last 9 world championships and comes into the season looking to win another. The 2022 WRC season begins this weekend in Monte Carlo, a race that is one of the most popular on the circuit. Ogier will be looking to get off to another fast start, but there are several drivers who might be able to take a run at the champ this season. It all begins with getting a win early, so let’s take a look at some of the drivers who might come out on top on Monte Carlo this weekend and place your bets against the WRC odds.

Sebastian Ogier

We have already spoken about what Ogier has done over the past decade or so, but you do wonder how long he can maintain this level of dominance. He has made a habit of getting out of the gate quickly and has in fact come up with the win in each of the last 6 Rally Monte Carlo races. He is chasing a bit of history this season beyond just winning this race again, and that is to equal the number of world titles win by a single driver. Sebastian Loeb currently leads the way with 9 and you would not bet against Ogier tying that this season and eventually going on to be the outright best the sport has ever seen. I certainly wouldn’t bet against him in Monte Carlo.

Ott Tanak

As we mentioned already, Ogier has won 8 of the last 9 world championships. The driver who broke that up was Tanak, who came out on top in 2019. He is among the drivers most likely to make things tough for Ogier this season, starting with a good run in Monte Carlo. While it has been the champion who has dominated this rally, Tanak has been close in each of the last 3 years, landing on the podium in each of those seasons. He is certainly worth taking a look at this weekend.

Elfyn Evans

Another driver that really needs to be given a serious look is Elfyn Evans. The Welshman is beginning to make a name for himself in the sport and has finished 2nd overall in each of the last 2 seasons. Could this be the year that he finally breaks through and wins it all? The bookies certainly seem to think so, as they have him in as the early favorite to win the WRC title. He has been on the podium in each of the last 2 seasons in Monte Carlo, so a solid bet this weekend.

Thierry Neuville

Another driver who has been consistently good over the past few years, Neuville also has a couple of podium finishes under his belt in Monte Carlo. Over the past 6 seasons, he has never finished worse than 4th overall in the WRC, so he has to be seen as a legitimate title contender. He might be worth a bet at a very decent price.
