Will Tyson or Jones Jr. Fight Again? – Boxing Lines

Written by on December 4, 2020

The November 28 boxing match between Iron Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. ended in a draw. Not everyone was happy with a draw, which is why most boxing fans believe the two will dance again sometime in the near future. Check out what both men said after their interesting exhibition bout on the Saturday after Thanksgiving that leads us to that conclusion. Then, read about three possible opponents for both men so you get ready to make your bets against their Boxing odds if they do fight again.

Boxing Update: Will Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr. Fight Again?

Iron Mike said he’s fighting again and so did Jones Jr.

To his credit, Tyson said he thought he won the fight but is happy with a draw. Per Iron Mike, “I’m just happy I could go eight rounds. Knockouts mean nothing, you have to be able to go the distance.”

At no time during the fight did Iron Mike show signs that he was tired. The two fought 8 two minute rounds. Mike said he’s used to fighting three minute rounds, which is why he wasn’t huffing and puffing at the end. For Tyson, getting back into the ring was more fun than anything else. He said he wants to fight more exhibitions versus other legendary fighters.

Roy Jones Jr. thought he fought well enough on the outside to get the victory. When asked about the draw, Superman said, “Hell, no, I ain’t satisfied with a draw. I wear drawers, I don’t do draws.”

Roy also said the reason he seemed exhausted was because Tyson hits hard and that the body shots caused him to tire quicker. “They definitely hurt. The body shots are what make you exhausted.”

The boxers are on the next Tyson or Jones Jr. fight list

Anyone who saw the bout knows that with more training Tyson or Jones Jr. could probably fight and beat a low-level pro. Nobody wants to see that, though, which is why one of the three listed opponents have the best shot of stepping into the ring against Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr. in their next fight.

Bernard Hopkins

Jones Jr. beat Bernard to win his first championship bout. Now a Golden Boy promoter, Hopkins looks like he’s in excellent shape. No doubt, if Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy’s owner, is willing to put together a fight, Hopkins would battle Tyson or Jones Jr.

But does Mike Tyson or Roy Jones Jr. want to fight Bernard Hopkins? Again, the latest photos has Hopkins looking like a 40-year-old.

Antonio Tarver

The man that knocked out Roy Jones Jr. and sent Superman on his boxing descent would like to get back into the ring for a third try. Now 52, Tarver told Mike Tyson he wants to put a beating onto Jake Paul first.

Tarver felt impinged that an “outsider” like Paul got co-main event billing to dominate former NBA basketball player Nate Robinson on the Jones Jr. versus Tyson undercard. After destroying Paul, and Tarver would, he’d try to fight Jones Jr. and then take on Tyson.

The problem Tarver has is the same one Bernard has. Like Hopkins, Antonio is in great shape. Neither Tyson nor Jones Jr. may want to fight Tarver. Paul won’t either unless boxing fans clamor for it. So, expect Antonio to ratchet up the pressure in the next couple of months.

Evander Holyfield

Sounds crazy, but Antonio Tarver has been training Evander Holyfield because the 58-year-old Real Deal wants to get back into the ring. Evander versus Mike would be the most interesting fight.

Holyfield might be the best in shape 58-year-old in history. No doubt, Tyson-Holyfield III would make for a great battle.

Buster Douglas has also said he wants to fight Tyson. If Douglas loses some weight, gets in shape, and still has the jackhammer jab he used to upset Mike, that could make for a good matchup.

All this talk about legends fighting legends should light a fire under Tyson Fury’s, Anthony Joshua’s, and Deontay Wilder’s derrieres. The only reason boxing fans are even considering paying money to watch Holyfield, Tarver, Jones Jr. and Tyson fight is because the three best heavyweights in the world won’t box each other.

Hopefully, seeing the response from Tyson – Jones Jr. will change their minds. Fury versus Joshua, or even Deontay versus Anthony would make for a mega-fight.
