There are several things to unpack as we look ahead to the start of the upcoming NFL season. The obvious thing to look at is in regards which team will win the Super Bowl, but there is a lot of football to be played before we get to that point. I find it easier to look at each individual division and the teams contained within, as that tends to give us a better idea of which teams have a good shot at making the postseason, barring injuries and other issues. Some divisions, though, are easier to predict than others, and you have to say that the AFC West might well be the toughest of the lot this season. We are potentially looking at a bit of a dog-eat-dog scenario there, which could well impact how many teams in the West move on to the postseason. It’s going to be tough to break down, but we are going to get the ball rolling by looking at the LA Chargers, who are coming off a 9-8 season and missing the playoffs. The bookies seem to think they might take a step forward this year, as they have the Chargers total win set at 10 ½. Los Angeles Chargers 2022 Schedule

The Chargers will live or die by the performance of QB Justin Herbert, who posted some gaudy numbers last season. September opens up with a home game versus the Raiders, after which they hit the road to face the Chiefs. I see a split here, but I also think the Chargers close out the opening month with a winning record, as it is the Jaguars in Week 3.

October has the potential to be a perfect month for the Chargers, as they have what looks to be a manageable schedule. Road trips to face the Texans and Browns will be followed by a pair of games at home versus the Broncos and the Seahawks. At worst, I would expect the Chargers to go 3-1 in the month of October.

November is a little tougher, but they should start with a win versus the Atlanta Falcons. They then have the 49ers away, the Chiefs at home, and the Cardinals away. Not an easy run of games by any measure, but a split still looks possible.

Their toughest stretch of games comes in December and January. They start on the road versus the Raiders and then have the Dolphins and Titans at home. That is followed by A road trip to Indianapolis and the Rams at home before closing out the season on the road to the Broncos. A tough run of games, to be sure, but again, I think the Chargers can win more than they lose in this stretch.

The Chargers have their franchise QB on board and are now trying to build around him. I think we see this team make a forward move this season, which will mean a trip to the postseason. I see them winning 11 or 12 games, so that means that I am taking the OVER on the Chargers total wins for 2022.
