Believe it or not, we’re just seven weeks away from the start of the 2022 college football season. With the preseason rankings being released, it’s time to take a look at what teams we think are overrated, and how that could affect their betting numbers. We’ve keyed in on five teams that we think are overrated. We’ll give you extensive NCAA Football Betting information on two of them.
5 College Football Teams That We Think are Overrated | NCAAF Betting Analysis
Clemson Tigers
Clemson was one of the biggest disappointments in college football last season. DJ Uiagalelei was expected to take a big step forward after being great when he took over for Trevor Lawrence in 2020. However, Uiagalelei was awful last season, and Clemson just never seemed to get things going.
Dabo Swinney’s squad is a big favorite to take back the ACC crown this season. The oddsmakers have given them a win over/under of 10.5. While Clemson should be the best team in the ACC, there could be a stumbling block or two along the way. They host Miami and travel to Notre Dame late in the season.
They lost both coordinators, and will have to replace at least five starters on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive side, if Uiagalelei struggles, Clemson could go with 5-star freshman Cade Klubnik. As always, Clemson has one of the top recruiting classes in the country. But with both coordinators leaving, there will be a lot of question marks. Brent Venables was one of, if not the top defensive coordinator in the country, and losing him could be even bigger than many thought it would be.
We see Clemson losing at least two games this season. In most of the preseason rankings, the Tigers are ranked in the Top 5. We like the under 10.5.
Texas A&M
After Texas A&M beat Alabama last season, everyone was ready for a new team to take over the SEC. However, the Aggies went on to lose four games and their season was deemed a disappointment. Fast forward to this season, and the oddsmakers aren’t really high on the Aggies, but they’re still rated fairly high in many preseason rankings.
They’re over/under win total has been set at 8.5 wins. They lost 12 starters from last year’s team including Isaiah Spiller, so many aren’t real high on the Aggies. They did have one of the best recruiting classes in the country, and they’ll have plenty of talent on their roster. The big question will be how well the freshmen can transition to big-time college football?
Even though many feel that the Aggies are overrated, we think that they will go over the 8.5. There are at least four games on their schedule that they could conceivably lose, but we think they end up going at least 9-3 and hit the over.
Michigan
Jim Harbaugh’s squad exceeded expectations last season. They lost both coordinators, and a lot of key players. The oddsmakers have them pegged to win 9.5 games. We see a letdown for the Michigan Wolverines. Take the under.
Utah
Does anyone remember that the Utes won the Pac 12 last season? Didn’t think so. They’re one of the favorites to win it again this season. We’re not as high on the Utah Utes as many experts are, but we think that their win total of 8.5 is a little low. Go over.
Oklahoma
When Lincoln Riley left Norman, there was a mass exodus of talent. Brent Venables did a great job of restocking the talent, but we’re just not sure how good the Oklahoma Sooners will truly be.
