The latest College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled on Tuesday night and then there are only two more rankings: Dec. 15 and then Dec. 20, which is Selection Sunday. It doesn’t seem likely that the top four will change this Tuesday with Alabama staying at No. 1, Notre Dame at No. 2, Clemson at No. 3 and Ohio State at No. 4. In fact, Texas A&M should stay at No. 5, Florida at No. 6 and unbeaten Cincinnati at No. 7.

The Tide (9-0) blasted reigning national champion LSU 55-17 on Saturday to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game opposite Florida.

Alabama took control from the very first drive, coming away with touchdowns on its first five possessions and scoring on every possession of the first half, leading LSU 45-14 after two quarters and totaling 469 yards of total offense. Alabama finished the game with 650 total yards, including 385 passing yards and 265 rushing yards.

Averaging better than 28 yard per catch, DeVonta Smith rolled up 231 receiving yards on eight receptions against the Tigers, with 219 of those yards, along with three touchdown catches, coming in the first half. His three scores extended his SEC and school record for career receiving touchdowns to 38.

Bama finishes its regular season at Arkansas this Saturday and while the Hogs are improved this year, the Tide are big favorites.

Notre Dame and Clemson are off this week and will meet in the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte on Dec. 19. Both avoided potential traps on Saturday.

The Irish beat Syracuse 45-21 to finish unbeaten at home for a third straight year. With the win, quarterback Ian Book secured his 30th career win at Notre Dame, the most all-time in school history. He finished 24-for-37 for 285 yards and 5 total touchdowns in his final game at Notre Dame Stadium. Book scampered for two rushing touchdowns in the game to tie for fourth all-time in career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 16.

Kyren Williams finished the game with 110 yards on 20 carries to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He is the first Irish sophomore since Darius Walker in 2005 to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season.

Clemson blew out Virginia Tech 45-10 to advance to its sixth consecutive ACC Championship Game. With the win, Trevor Lawrence became the winningest starting quarterback in school-history (33), surpassing Rodney Williams, Tajh Boyd and Deshaun Watson’s shared record of 32.

Clemson joined 2013 Florida State as the only ACC teams ever to score 34 or more points in each of the first 10 games of a season. Clemson recorded multiple rushing touchdowns in a 26th consecutive game. The last time Clemson was held to a single rushing touchdown was in the 2018 Cotton Bowl.

One team that will drop is No. 13 BYU after the Cougars lost Saturday at fellow unbeaten and No. 18 Coastal Carolina in a game that was only scheduled mid-week last week. The Chanticleers prevailed 22-17 in a thriller. With a 22-17 lead in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Coastal Carolina’s Mateo Sudipo tackled BYU’s Dax Milne at the one-yard line as time ran off the game clock.

It was Coastal’s first-ever over a Top-10 FBS nationally-ranked team (in the AP poll) and the second win over a Top-25 nationally-ranked foe in program history, both of which have come this season. The Chants’ 10-0 start is the best start by any football team in Sun Belt Conference history.

No question that Coastal Carolina will rise in the new rankings – the highest-rated Group of 5 school on Selection Sunday earns a New Year’s Six bowl spot. Right now, that would be Cincinnati but the Bearcats have back-to-back tough games against No. 4 Tulsa. This week they play at Tulsa, and then they play again next Saturday in the AAC Championship game.

Cincinnati sits at No. 7 in all three major polls, the CFP, Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls, its first Top-10 ranking since the 2009 season. The Bearcats ranking is the highest ever for a team outside of the five autonomy conferences, topping UCF’s No. 8 ranking in 2018. The Bearcats haven’t played since Nov. 21 due to COVID-19 cancellations.
