NCAAF Houston Wins Total Betting Prediction for the 2022 Season

NCAAF Houston Wins Total Betting Prediction for the 2022 Season

Until such times as the NCAA expands the playoffs, which now looks to be happening sooner rather than later, the expectation is that the 4 teams that make the playoffs each year will come from the Power 5. Sure, there have been a couple of exceptions to the rule. We saw Notre Dame make it in as an independent, and then last season we saw the Cincinnati Bearcats of the AAC get their shot. The question now is whether the Bearcats are a blip on the radar or whether we are now going to see the playoff committee take the resumes of teams outside the Power 5 a little more seriously. If the latter is the truth, then might the Houston Cougars be in the conversation this season? The Cougars had 12 wins on the season in 2021 and you could argue that their schedule this season is a little more favorable. The bookies seem to agree, as they have Houston’s win total for the season set at 9. Can they go over that number? Let’s take a look and see so you can bet against their College Football Regular Season Wins Odds.

Houston Cougars 2022 Season Betting Prediction: Win/Loss Record

Cougars Regular Season

This will be the final time that we will see the Houston Cougars in the AAC, as they will be making the jump to the Big 12 starting in 2023. They will be looking to finish strong, which would mean winning the conference and having their name in the mix for a playoff spot. They will open the season against UTSA, which should be a win, before going on the road to face Texas Tech, the team that beat them in Week 1 of the season last year. They then head home for another tricky one against Kentucky before a pair of winnable games versus Tulane and Rice.

I think the Cougars will be heading into October with a 4-1 record. They start that month with a pair of road games against Memphis and Navy, both of which are winnable, before heading home to face USF. This is potentially an unbeaten month that could take the Cougars to 7-1.

The home stretch will see them play 2 at home and 2 on the road. They will travel to face SMU and ECU, while facing Temple and Tulsa in their own building. Again, these all look like games that the Cougars can win, and which could potentially propel them to another trip to the AAC Championship Game.

The thing that really stands out about their schedule is that they will not face Cincinnati, which potentially sets up a rematch of last season’s championship game.

Regular Season and Beyond

It is fair to say that the Cougars have some tough games on their schedule, but I also think they have the opportunity to go unbeaten in conference play, just as they did last year. As mentioned, I believe that would set up an AAC Championship rematch against Cincinnati. While I think that the Cougars have a great shot at going OVER the 9-game win total, I really think that the playoffs are still out of reach. A conference championship and a New Year’s 6 bowl game is more of a reasonable expectation for this team.
