LSU vs Arkansas NCAA Football Week 11 Spread & Pick

Written by on November 7, 2018

LSU has no shot to reach the SEC Championship Game or College Football Playoff, but the No. 9 Tigers are still in position for a major bowl game if they win out. They need to avoid a major letdown Saturday at a bad Arkansas team, which explains why the Tigers are NCAAF Betting favorites by two TD’s.

LSU smoked Arkansas 33-10 last year. Derrius Guice ran for 147 yards and three touchdowns and D.J. Clark had a pair of receiving touchdowns for LSU. Both those guys are in the NFL now. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Danny Etling connected with Chark for a 68-yard touchdown. The pair also hooked up for a 45-yard score in the first half. Chark finished the game with 130 yards on four catches. David Williams was the leading rusher for Arkansas with 81 yards on 13 carries. Austin Allen completed 13 of 23 passes for 140 yards.

For the 22nd consecutive year, LSU and Arkansas will battle for “The Boot,” a 24-karat gold trophy in the shape of the states of Arkansas and Louisiana that resembles a boot. LSU has won the trophy 13 times – 1996, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016. Arkansas has claimed the trophy eight times 1998, 2000, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2014 and 2015. LSU coach Ed Orgeron is 2-0 against the Razorbacks as head coach of the Tigers and 2-3 overall vs. Arkansas (0-3 as head coach at Ole Miss).

Why Bet on LSU?

The Tigers were 29-0 home losers to Alabama last week – hey, that’s about as well as anyone has played the Tide this year. Playing the first half without star junior linebacker Devin White, LSU fell behind 16-0 at the break. The Tide added to its lead with touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

LSU’s offense struggled to maintain drives, managing 196 yards of total offense against Alabama’s 576. Quarterback Joe Borrow finished 18-of-35 passing for 184 yards with an interception in the Alabama end zone. He was sacked five times. His top target was Justin Jefferson, who had six catches for 81 yards. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire added 38 receiving yards on two catches. LSU’s streak of 100‐yard rushing games was snapped at 25 games after the Tigers recorded 12 rushing yards. LSU is 15-0 under Ed Orgeron when the Tigers feature a 100-yard rusher (6-0 in 2016, 5-0 in 2017, 4-0 in 2018. RB Nick Brossette ranks No. 2 in the SEC in rushing TDs with 10 and he’s No. 5 in rushing yards with 702 (78.0 per game).

LSU is 7-0 in games following a loss under Coach O, which includes a 36-16 win over then-No. 2 Georgia the week after dropping a 27-19 decision to Florida. LSU hasn’t lost back-to-back games since dropping three straight in November of 2015. Safety Grant Delpit leads the SEC and ranks No. 2 in the nation in interceptions with 5. He also ranks among the league leaders in sacks (No. 12 with 4.0) and tackles for loss (No. 14 with 8.5). His 57 tackles rank No. 24 in the SEC. Delpit and CB Greedy Williams are among 14 semifinalists for the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award given to the nation’s best defensive back. White was selected to the Butkus Award semifinalist list, which is awarded to the best linebacker in the country. &

After nine games, LSU owns a +12 turnover margin with five forced fumbles and 15 interceptions. The defense’s 15 interceptions are the most in the league and second in the country. The Tigers’ +12 turnover margin is first in the league and fifth in the country.

Why Bet on Arkansas?

The Hogs are 2-7 and 0-5 in the SEC following a 45-31 home loss to Vanderbilt on Oct. 27. Rakeem Boyd ran 19 times for 113 yards for the Razorbacks, the third time in four games the sophomore has topped the 100-yard mark in rushing. After missing the previous game with a concussion, Arkansas quarterback Ty Storey returned and completed 23 of 36 passes for 240 yards. He also threw two touchdowns and two interceptions.

No other defense in the SEC has a tackling trio as accomplished as Arkansas. Senior De’Jon Harris (93) leads the league in total & solo tackles, while senior defensive back Santos Ramirez (64) and senior linebacker Dre Greenlaw (60) rank sixth & ninth, respectively, in tackles. The Razorback trio has combined for 217 stops this season, while the next closest threesome in the league sits at 213.

LSU vs Arkansas is one of the best NCAA Football Week 11 games.

The combination of Harris and Ramirez is also the top tackling duo in the conference. At least one member of the trio has had 10 or more tackles in each of the last five games & eight of the last nine contests, with all three accomplishing the feat against Texas A&M (9/29) and Alabama (10/6).

Junior kicker Connor Limpert was named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award on Nov. 1, which is presented annually to the nation’s top kicker. He is one of 20 semifinalists up for the honor, as he is 16-of-20 in FG attempts this year and owns the longest field goal made among the group & the second-longest in the country this season at 55 yards.

The Razorbacks trail the all-time series with the Tigers 39-22-2, with the series dating back to 1901. Arkansas has won two of the last four meetings, picking up back-to-back wins in 2014 & 2015. The two teams have only met in Fayetteville four times, including each of the last three even years, while the first came in 1992.
