Myrtle Beach Bowl Betting Preview: Marshall Vs UConn Odds & Prediction

Bowl season begins this coming Friday, and from that point forward, the games are going to be coming thick and fast. There are a ton of great betting opportunities out there, although we all know that bowl games have a tendency to be hit and miss. The harsh reality is that you never really know how teams are going to react heading into these games. Some will be excited to have another shot at getting the win, while other would sooner things had come to an end at the end of the regular season. Still, these games will be played, and we need to try and figure out who is going to come out on top in each of them. We are going to do our best to cover all the bases, and we are going to dive into the Myrtle Beach Bowl with this piece. This game is set to go on December 19 at 2:30 PM EST, with the Marshall Thundering Herd and UConn Huskies set to square off. Marshall is a 10-point favorite, with the point total set at 41. Let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive to the Myrtle Beach Bowl game so you can bet against their College Football Bowl Odds.

Who is Playing in the Myrtle Beach Bowl? | Marshall Thundering Hear vs UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Marshall Thundering Herd

Heading into the home stretch in the regular season, Marshall found themselves at 4-4 and needing a couple of wins to become bowl eligible. They hit their stride at that point, closing things out with 4 straight wins, so they are coming into this one with momentum very much on their side. This is a team that does not find themselves in a shootout very often, averaging 24 PPG, while giving up just a touch over 16 PPG. If there is a negative to be found here, it’s that Marshall have not been a great December team, losing each of their last 5 in that month. The Thundering Herd went 6-6 ATS this season and saw the OVER hit just 3 times in 12 games.

UConn Huskies

You have to give some credit to the UConn Huskies for getting to a bowl game, as they started the season by digging themselves into a deep hole. They started the season at 1-4, but in fairness to them, they had a couple of those losses come against ranked teams, including a matchup against Michigan, who will be part of the playoffs this season. From that point forward they became very tough to beat, winning 5 of their final 7 games, although they did close out the regular season on a losing note. The Huskies managed just shy of 20 PPG on offense this season, while giving up 26 PPG. UConn were a great bet against the spread this season, going 9-3, while going 4-7-1 O/U.

Betting and Prediction

While there has been a bit of a break between the end of the season and this game, I think the Thundering Herd will still have the momentum that they finished the regular season with. I like them to get the win in this one, and I also believe that there is a pretty good chance that they will cover the spread. The wager that I really like here, though, is the UNDER, as neither of these teams are particularly gifted on the offensive side of the football.
