The countdown to the start of the college football season is on and those of us who closely follow the sport are already starting to think about our bets for the coming season. In many cases, that means wagering on conference winners, win totals, and other futures type wagers. When you start talking about the independent teams, some of those wagers go out the window, as there is no conference wagers available for those teams. What we can do, though, is take a look at the schedule and try to figure out the wins and losses for those teams. That is what we are going to do with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are coming into this season with a new head coach on the sidelines, with Brian Kelly jumping ship and taking over the reins at LSU. Will that change have an impact, or will the Irish have another big season? Let’s take a closer look at them so you can plan your bets against their College Football Betting Odds.

Notre Dame Regular Season
Marcus Freeman is the new head coach for the Irish, and while there is pressure when taking over a big-name team, he is at least inheriting a squad coming off an 11-win season. It is a tough start for the Irish, though, as they will open up against the Ohio State Buckeyes. This is a game that could potentially define their season, even if they do come out on the losing side.
They will follow that one with home games against Marshall and Cal, both of which should be wins, followed by a tough road trip to UNC.
Next up is a stretch of games that look to winnable for the Irish, with BYU, Stanford, and UNLV on the schedule. I would be playing them to win all of these games, at which point, I think they will be sitting at 6-1. If they can also take out Ohio State in Week 1 and go perfect, they will very much be in the playoff conversation.
The Irish will hit the road once more to face Syracuse, a game they should win, but it is the next game that might make or break their season, with Clemson next up. Even if their only 2 losses of the season are to Ohio State and Clemson, they will still be out of the playoff picture. They will close things out with games against Navy, Boston College and USC.
If the Irish can take one of the games against the big Power 5 teams, they have a chance to match their 11-1 regular season performance from last year. That said, there are some tricky games on the schedule besides those. Still, I would bet on them going OVER the 8 ½ game win total currently set by the bookies.
Regular Season and Beyond
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are currently sitting at odds of +4600 to win the National Championship, which I think is more than fair when you consider their strength of schedule. I would not play them to make the playoffs, as I think they are looking at a New Year’s Six Bowl Game as the most likely outcome of this season.
