NCAA Football Week 7: USC Trojans vs. Utah Utes Odds & Betting

Written by on October 14, 2022

The seventh-ranked USC Trojans will be heading to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday night to take on the 20th-ranked Utah Utes in a Pac-12 Conference matchup. The Trojans are a perfect 6-0 (4-0) thus far and are coming off of a 30-14 home win over the Washington State Cougars on Saturday, while the Utes are 4-2 (2-1) so far and are coming off of a 42-32 road loss on Saturday against the 18th-ranked UCLA Bruins. Here is the game preview for your NCAA Football bets.

USC Trojans content

The USC Trojans are one of the best teams in the nation, and a lot of that is due to their offensive output, as they are averaging 40.2 points on 461.8 total yards of offense. Sophomore quarterback Caleb Wiliams has looked like a Heisman finalist this year as he has completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 1,590 yards with 14 touchdowns and a single interception thus far. They also have an electric running back in senior Travis Dye, who has six rushing touchdowns this season while averaging 6.3 rushing yards per attempt this season behind a solid offensive line in the first year of Lincoln Riley’s tenure as head coach.

Their defense has been doing well, as they are allowing 18.7 points on 351.5 total yards of offense thus far. They dominate the trenches as they enter this week with the most sacks as a team, with 24 so far. USC is led defensively by junior defensive lineman Tuli Tuipulotu, who leads the nation with seven sacks as well as forcing a fumble as well.

Utah Utes content

The offense of the Utah Utes has been doing extremely well, as they are scoring 40.3 points on 457.8 total yards per game. Junior quarterback Cameron Rising has done well so far under center with a 69 completion percentage for 1,440 yards with 13 touchdown passes and three interceptions. They also run the ball extremely effective as they are averaging 201.5 rushing yards per game, which is 27th in the country.

The Utah Utes have been a good defensive team as well, as they are giving up 19 points on 315.8 total yards per game thus far. They have 10 total interceptions as a team, with three of them being returned for touchdowns, so they can put points up in a hurry, even if their offense is on the sidelines. Sophomore cornerback Clark Phillips III is tied for the lead in the nation with five interceptions heading into this game.

What are the Betting Odds?

According to MyBookie Sportsbook, the Utah Utes are currently sitting as a 3.5-point home favorite in this game.

Who Should We Bet?

These teams are very similar to one another, with solid quarterback play and a defense that will bend but not break in a good Pac-12 Conference. However, in the last few weeks, there has been a difference by the defenses as the Trojans are giving up 17.5 points per game in their last four games while the Utes are allowing 23.7 points per game in their previous three games. These programs are very similar, but I will take the points here and give me a top-10 program in the USC Trojans as a road underdog.
