2023 League of Legends Pro League Betting Preview: RNG vs LNG Esports

The LPL’s summer split is off to the races, with seventeen teams fighting for ten playoff spots. The single round robin format is ripe for drama and exciting matches, and this week’s contest between RNG and LNG is shaping up to be just that.

RNG were champions of the 2022 edition of the Mid-Season Invitational, but struggled to perform well at worlds and came in 7th-8th during the 2023 spring split. LNG were knocked out of the 2022 LPL finals by RNG, but improved on that performance with a 5th-6th finish in the 2023 spring split.

Both teams won their opening series, though LNG required a third game in their series against Top Esports.

MyBookie has the LoL betting lines as they willl be playing a best-of-three series, with the winners facing off against the winners of the RNG vs LNG Esports.

Top Lane

It was business as usual for RNG’s Breathe in the team’s opening series against ThunderTalk. He played K’Sante and Gragas with great success, displaying dominance in each of the team’s two games.

Zika of LNG played two games and one of Jax last week, with his Sion contributing to a loss. His KDA of 2.7 leaves room for improvement, but LNG have reasons to be optimistic. They also have PandaC available as a sub if Breathe proves too much handle, giving them some draft flexibility.

Wei’s 14.5 KDA last series for RNG is impressive, and he did it on two of meta’s top junglers; Vi and Wukong. Surprisingly, his kill participation was on the low side for such a dominant series, only registering around 61.6%, far lower than we see from the top players in the division like Kanavi.

LNG’s Tarzan gets involved at a much higher rate, with 78% of LNG’s kills coming from the Korean import. He also played a game of Vi and Wukong, though the latter led to a loss. Still, Tarzan is the engine of this team, and there’s a lot to be excited about if you’re a fan of LNG.

Mid Lane

Tangyuan had a nice day at the office against Top Esports, with two Annie games and a 70.3% kill participation score to go along with it. Having a stable presence in the mid lane frees up Wei to make moves elsewhere on the map, allowing for a nearly equivalent gold share.

LNG’s Scout played two games of Lissandra and one of Annie, good for a 69.7% kill participation score. Like his opponent in this matchup, we can expect a lot of roaming and map presence.

Bot Lane

RNG’s bot lane duo of LP and LvMao repeated the hero combination of Aphelios and Braum in their first series of the season, good for kill participation scores of 74.4% and 83.1%, respectfully. They do a great job of responding to ganks and a hard duo to push out of lane.

LNG did one better, however, with the duo of GALA and Hang combining for 91 and 95% of their team’s kills. It’s unlikely to hold up in the long run, but this is a team that knows how to play around botside.
